5th Grading Period Ends this Thursday!
This is school; I CANNOT stress this enough! It just looks differently which is why we are trying to make it as easy a transition on you as possible. We have to have grades in order to support your child passing that subject for the year. Our expectation is that the students are working on lessons in all classes as best they can and at a pace that works for them and for you.
We realize some of you have multiple people in the house who are sharing devices, and/or you are waiting on a device for your child. The teachers are aware of this, and we will work with your child to get caught up and adjust lessons accordingly.
Please stay in communication with your child's teachers. They are here to assist and help your child and you as we get accustomed to our new normal.
Online Learning "the Husky Way" is Going Strong!
Thank you parents for your patience and support as our teachers worked as quickly as possible to get new passwords to all of their students! Things are going smoother as the students are now familiar with the set up and the expectations for their classes.
This will be our new "normal" until further notice. Here are some things to know for the 3rd week:
- 5th Grading Period ends on Thursday, April 8. Your child MUST be submitting their work in order for us to have grades to ensure mastery of what they are learning. Check Skyward for missing assignments that need to be submitted by Thursday.
- Work completed this week (April 6-9) will be recorded and reflect on the next grading period so the students can continue to submit their work from the previous week.
- Students are held accountable for the work they are given for each subject. Grades will be taken, so please make sure you are looking at what the teachers are assigning and that you are checking grades in Skyward.
- Students will have work to complete each week in all 4 core classes, Elective and PE.
- Your child should have received a new login last week. Your child's teachers have his/her login, so please reach out to one of them if your child has already forgotten the new one given last week.
- If your child is still having issues getting into his/her class link, you can email Ms. Clayton at jeanneclayton@misdmail.org and she will reset the password for your child each day between 10-12PM.
- From ClassLink, students will go to Canvas and click on each subject. From there, the lessons will be posted from your child's teacher with with instructions on what is expected. If your child's teacher(s) have been using Google Classroom, that will be linked into Canvas, so no worries there!
- I HIGHLY encourage you as a parent to create a Canvas Parent Account that will connect you to your child's Canvas Page (see instructions below).
- Teachers can communicate with students via video conferencing using either Canvas or Teams. Teachers will communicate with the students and with you if the TEAMS App needs to be downloaded (there is a link already on their ClassLink page). See below for more information about TEAMS.
- Please make sure that students are receiving correspondence and weekly lesson plans and are communicating with the teachers for questions, etc. The teachers will be communicating with their students, so it is imperative that you be checking your email from the teachers as well.
Please contact your child’s teachers if you have questions. This is a very fluid situation that changes daily , but we will work through this TOGETHER!
6th Grade Zoo and 5th Grade Perot Field Trip Refund Process
As you all know, field trips for the remainder of the year have been canceled. We are researching the refund process with the district, and we will communicate with you once we receive information.
We appreciate your patience as the district devises a plan for this process.
MISD Updated Grading Policy
Mansfield ISD and school districts nationwide have been faced with unique challenges during the coronavirus (COVID-19) closure.
As the education process continues through distance learning, MISD updated its grading policy in an effort to do what is best for students while following state guidelines.
View the district’s updated grading policy here, which will be implemented for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
The updates are broken down by grade level. Please contact your child’s teacher and/or campus administration for further information.

What Devices can your child use?
We are aware that several children in your household may be sharing devices, along with you might be working from home as well, so we will be mindful of that when we send out assignments and make our deadlines, etc.
If you are having issues with a device, etc. please let your child's teachers know, and we will try to work something out with you (we are still waiting on some direction from the district on providing hard copies of student work, etc.).

A message to Parents of Students who receive SPED and 504 Services
March 26, 2020
Dear Parents,
The Mansfield Independent School District is aware of the tremendous disruption the COVID-19 (“coronavirus”) outbreak has had on the education of our students who are served via individualized education plans (“IEPs”) and/or Section 504 Plans. Simply put, neither the IDEA nor Section 504 address a situation in which schools are closed and/or transition to an alternate mode of instructional deliver for an extended period of time. We are doing our best to balance the educational needs of our students with our top priority of maintaining the safety and well-being of all students and staff during this crisis. To that end, MISD is carefully monitoring guidance from federal and state authorities to determine how best to proceed.
Texas Governor Abbot announced restrictions that require all schools to remain closed through April 3, 2020 in an effort to help prevent the spread of the outbreak. In the event of an extended closure (more than 10 days), the District will make individualized determinations as to whether the closure impacted the delivery of services and, if so, to what extend compensatory education may be required.
Since school has resumed and requires a shift to distance education/online learning, MISD will make every effort to provide special education and related services in accordance with each student’s IEP or Section 504 Plan. The District will do its best to ensure that each student continues to receive a free appropriate public education, consistent with protecting the health and safety of the student and those providing that education to the student.
While this may be a minor issue for some students, the reality is that the amount and type of educational services, both instructional and related, being provided to a large number of students during a period of alternative instructional delivery is likely to be different from that which would be provided in the classroom. If you wish to hold an IEP meeting to discuss your child’s services, the campus will work with you to schedule an IEP meeting in order to amend your child’s IEP.
Upon the resumption of normal school activities, we will continue working with you to make individualized determinations as to whether and to what extent compensatory services may be needed to make up for any skills that may have been lost.
Neither federal nor state authorities have indicated that they will be providing any waivers of timelines related to evaluations, reevaluations, or mandated IEP and/or Section 504 meetings. The District will attempt to comply with existing timelines to the extent it is possible given any overriding health and safety mandates. At this time, this means that Section 504 and/or ARD meetings will likely need to be held via audio conference. Additionally, any evaluations that require face-to-face assessment or observation may need to be delayed until those health restrictions have been lifted.
Finally, I want to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during this confusing time. We look forward to continuing to work together to get through this unprecedented event and back to our roles as educators.
Warm regards,
Lesa Shocklee
