Falco August Newsletter 2020
Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson Middle School
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon community!
Thank you for your patience as we get closer and closer to our CDL start date of September 14! It’s hard to believe that we are less than a month away from the first day of Comprehensive Distance Learning! You can expect to see the newsletter more regularly as we get closer to the first day of school. I am so excited to get the school year rolling and see all the great learning students get to do! I have had some questions from parents (thank you for reaching out!) that I’d like to address here to make sure we’re all on the same page:
- Students first day of CDL (online learning) is September 14.
- We will have Falcon Days September 8 and 9 that will include a welcome packet for students, school pictures and *some* chromebook hand out.
- My grand idea to have everyone get a new chromebook by September 14 isn’t as doable as I’d hoped. At this time we are looking at starting with new students, followed by students who have broken machines, then we will roll out the new chromebooks to everyone else. In the meantime, have your student make sure their chromebook works and they remember how to log in! Please look for more information soon on how to let us know if your students’ chromebook is broken.
- All students at FOMS/RC will be doing CDL - there are no in person components at this time. IF the county reaches metrics needed to move into a hybrid situation we will ensure everyone has the information necessary to make the choice that best fits their family needs.
- Due to construction and Covid related safety measures, non-employees are not allowed in the building at this time. I’ve had a few requests to come and look around and we are unable to accommodate these requests right now.
- We will release schedules as soon as we can. There are constraints preventing the release of schedules at this time including staffing uncertainty and bargaining processes. I know this makes planning for a few weeks from now very challenging and anxiety producing. I can tell you that middle school is slated to have classes between 10:15 and 3:50. 9:15-10:15 is time for office hours and student check ins based on need. All of this is still tentative based on the outcome of staffing and bargaining.
This week we are working on:
- Finalizing plans for our students in special programs
- Finalizing master schedule
- Beginning to put students into classes
- Welcoming staff who started back to work August 17 including Ms. Narvaez, Ms Campos Zelada, Ms. Redding, and Ms. Pope!
- Planning for inservice week
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns! Have a great week!

Comunidad Falcon!

WAYS TO HELP OUR STUDENTS IN THE BEAVERTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
BEF is working on a couple of different projects this summer - our goal remains on ensuring that together we can incubate promising ideas, create hands-on learning opportunities, and fill in funding gaps, all while connecting the community to the classroom. We are helping in a couple of additional ways this summer.
