Writing Lab
March 10 - 27, 2023
Hello and thank you for subbing. Today is Day 4 of rotation. Hanging by my door is a flip chart that will tell you which classes to get today. Do not worry about reviewing the couplet poem below. Most of the materials you will need are in the baskets beside the laptop stand by my board. They are labeled with the grade levels.
3rd Grade- Shark Non-Fiction Writing. Students will watch a video about sharks and then write facts they learned. Click on the link below and let the students watch the video about sharks. Tell them to listen carefully because they will need to write some facts they learned. Hand them the speech bubble page from the 3rd Grade basket. They can begin their writing with "DID YOU KNOW THAT.. ." and then write some facts they learned. Make sure they write their name on their paper. At the end of class, pick them up and place in the 3rd Grade file behind Yosten's name. If they finish early, they may draw or write on a blank piece of paper on the cart stand by my desk.
2nd Grade- Students will watch a video about Earth Day and taking care of the planet. Next, they will write ways they can help Earth. First, let them watch the video about Earth Day below. Next, hand them a page from the 2nd Grade basket where they will write how they can protect our earth. Make sure they write their name on their paper. I added some words to the board to help with spelling. If they finish, they may color the Earth which is also located in the 2nd Grade basket. Tell them we are not cutting it out today. Just coloring. They need to write their name on the Earth coloring page also. At the end of class, pick them up and put in the correct teacher's file on the counter.

1st Grade- After students get their wiggles out, they will watch a video about the 4 seasons. Next they will write a sentence about each of the four seasons. First, scroll down and let the kids dance to the Cat Party video. Next, let the kids watch the video below about the seasons. The project for this has been more difficult than I thought it would be so as a Plan B, please go over to the shelves with the curtains above the counter. On the left side there is a container that has some homemade "books". Pass these out and the kids can draw and write in them today. They may take them back to class with them.

Kindergarten- After Get Your Wiggles Out Time, students will watch the video below about different types of weather. Next, have the students get a clipboard and pencil (they know how to do this but you may want to let girls go first, then boys). Hand them a paper from the Kindergarten basket. Remind them to write their names at the top. On the laptop stand, I have four pictures of different types of weather. The students are to pick which type is their favorite and write it in the blank on their paper. You may want to use the data projector to show them the cards. Then, have them look at the chart stand by the door. Most kids pick sunny so read the sentences under sunny and let them pick one to copy. If they choose a different type of weather, then add a sentence to the chart to explain why that is their favorite weather. When their sentence is complete, they may draw and color a picture to represent their sentence. Yes, this is challenging. Just do the best you can. They can color on the back of their paper if they finish early.

4th Grade- Students will watch a video showing some African animals and then pick an African animal and begin researching about it. First, spread out all the animal research pages located on the counter by the pencil sharpener. Let a small group of students at a time come up and pick the creature they would like to research. Next, hand out the pamphlets in the 4th Grade basket. Make sure students first write their name and the name of the creature they are researching on the front of the pamphlet. The research page makes it very easy for them to find the information they are looking for. Walk around and give assistance as needed. Tell them the big blank rectangle on the front of the pamphlet is for a picture of their animal that they will add next week. At the end of class, gather the pamphlets and put in the correct file in the 4th Grade crate on the counter.
