Things to Consider Before Take a GCC Course
Should you take a college course next semester?
*We want you to be successful in your core 10th grade classes first! If you are struggling in your current classes or did not do well in your classes last year, it would be best to focus on the classes you have now to raise your GPA.
*Keep in mind that one semester of a college course is equivalent to an entire year of a high school course. They are intense and fast paced!
*The grades you earn in a GCC class will go on your college permanent record. If you earn a "C" or lower, it is really hard to bring up your GPA and it may affect your plans for college after high school.
*The college class may interfere with your classwork, extracurricular activities, and colleges often do not operate on the same academic calendar, so you may have conflicts with school commitments.
If you are interested in taking a GCC course next semester, email me and let's chat about it!
Personal Email vs. GUSD Student Email - Which one should I use?
Be sure to create a personal email address (Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.) for colleges, scholarships, community service, and more.
*Remember, when creating an email address, choose a username that is professional. I recommend simply using your name (examples: claireirvine OR claire_irvine)*
Use your GUSD student email address for school communication, Google Classroom, and classes. etc.
Did you know?
- Your GUSD student email does not send or receive emails outside the GUSD network.
- The student email is deleted once you graduate, so your personal email will be your working email.
- Adding your student email to your portal ensures that teachers and staff are able to contact you since all student systems are connected to Q.
Let's Stay Connected!
Here are some ways for us to stay connected:
- 📚 Google Classroom: I have invited each of you to my Google Classroom where I will post important updates and information. Please check the page often! If you don't see the invite, please email me and I will send you the code.
- ☎️💻 Don't see your answer on the FAQ page? Email me: email@example.com OR click here to book a time to speak over the phone or via Google Meet
- Be sure to follow the Hoover Counseling Office on Instagram! @HooverHighCounseling
Please check your student GUSD emails and connect with your Link Crew mentors. Your personal Link Crew Leader has sent a welcome video, an invitation to connect with you through the Remind app, as well as an email/message asking you how the start of school is going. Be sure to respond and connect...a junior or senior is waiting to hear back from you :)
