Weekly Update
October 6, 2019
This week at school . . . . .
Friday we celebrated the feast of St. Francis, one of my favorites of all time. My father was named after him and the Franciscans deeply influenced our family while growing up. I encourage all families to develop an appreciation for the saints, especially as we look forward to Nov. 1 and the feast of All Saints. Our school has an incredible purpose to sing sacred and beautiful music at liturgies and in doing so, give praise to the heavens above. Such a noble and worthy purpose elevates all that we do. In a word, we could say that everything we do is preparation for our boys to become saints.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week the boys took the NWEA/MAP tests. Teachers will have results next week. We wish to use the results as a great opportunity for teachers to meet with their advisees and discuss the results and help students develop individual goals for academic improvement. If you do not know who your son’s advisor is, please ask them. All students at SPCS are assigned a teacher who will meet with them on a regular basis (typically at least once every two weeks) to establish academic and behavioral goals that will help them excel. Teachers will be prepared to discuss progress towards these goals during parent/teacher conference on November 18. You need not wait until that time to check in via email to better understand this process and what your child’s goals are.
Thursday evenings are now featuring the return of Vespers at 5:30. If you have not taken the opportunity to attend Vespers, I highly recommend that you do so. The Choir sing the most beautiful psalms and canticles in a peaceful and quiet surrounding. We are very pleased to be able to re-launch this tradition and hope that find the opportunity to experience it with us.
Please remember that there is a schedule change in the calendar for Oct 11! Inform Mrs. Flaherty is your son is planning to attend or not.
Thank you, Tom
