Principal's Update

Dear St. Gabes students and families,

Happy Fall! We are having such a lovely and extended fall this year for which I'm so grateful. I love winter but I'd love a lot less of it than we normally get!

We've had a wonderful start up at St. Gabriel Education Centre this year. Students are well into their courses now and we're seeing lots of students coming in to work with teachers or just to work on their own here. Our staff are working hard with students to ensure that every student who comes to St. Gabes is successful. It's great to see more activity and traffic.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving liturgy with Father Ignacy from St. Albert parish presiding. Afterwards, we all joined together to share lunch which was provided by the staff of St. Gabes. It was great to be able to eat together as a community again and to share stories and laughter.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our food drive. Lac St. Anne parish was very grateful for the support. It's in giving that we receive.

We also had a wonderful School Council meeting with 7 parents in attendance, which is enough to establish a school council. I encourage you to join us and learn about what St. Gabriel Education Centre is all about and to give us input about what you would like to see at our school. Thank you to those parents who joined us and helped to get us started!

I'm looking forward to continuing to get to know our students and families this semester.

Many Blessings!

COVID protocols - update

Greater St. Albert Catholic School division is now requiring all staff to either provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test every 72 hours. This requirement extends to volunteers, substitute teachers, contractors, etc. It does not apply to students. Please continue to complete the COVID checklist prior to coming to school. If you have any symptoms, you are required to stay home and cannot come into the school in person. You are welcome to join your seminars online. Should you begin to have symptoms while at school, you will be asked to go home.

In the case of a positive diagnosis, we encourage you to call us so that we can initiate contact tracing in a timely manner. AHS will contact us with any positive cases and we will notify any close contacts by phone and follow up with an email. Close contacts are not being asked to isolate at this time.

You can read our division's response to COVID-19 by clicking on our division website and reading our "Return to School" plan.

St. Gabes School Clothing - update

The clothing store is now closed. If you ordered clothing, it should be here by mid-November. We will call you when it comes in.

School Council

Please join us on Monday, November 1st at 6:30pm for our School Council meeting. We meet once per month except for December and June. All of our meetings are online. You can find the agenda and meeting link on our website under "About Us/School Council". Being part of School Council is a great way to learn about your child's school and advise the administration about what you want and need at school. Bonus - There's no fundraising on School Council! Please let me know if you would like to join us by emailing me at mailto:rtrottier@gsacrd.ab.ca. A school with a School Council is a strong, productive and viable school!

We will be discussing our school results at our November meeting.

Food Drive - Update

"A portion of the harvest is set aside for the poor and the stranger" (Leviticus 19:9-10).

Thank you to all of you who contributed to our food drive. A special thank you to GSACRD Trustee Serena Shaw for picking up the food we collected and delivering it to Father Les in Lac St. Anne so that he can distribute it to people of the Paul Band and Alexis Reserve.

Thanksgiving Liturgy

Halloween at St. Gabes

We encourage all students to dress up for Halloween on October 29. Please remember that we are a school so costumes should be tasteful. Avoid excessively violent, gory, scary or culturally insensitive costumes or costumes that are overly revealing. Feel free to ask me if you're in doubt. There will be prizes for students who dress up!

Remembrance Day Liturgy

Please join us on November 4 at 11:30 for our Remembrance Day liturgy. Our online junior high students will be joining online for the service.

Parking Update! WE DONE!!!

Our parking lot is finally FINISHED! Woo Hoo! Students and parents, you are welcome to park in our lower parking lot. When you come to the school, turn down the back alley off St. Vital Avenue and you'll see the lower parking lot. Please do not park in the lot by our doors as that is for staff and handicapped. We will also soon have a bike rack installed for those of you who like to ride your bikes to school.

Moodle updates

We are in the process of updating our Moodle site. We will send out an email just before we move to the new site. None of your course work will be affected but the site will look a bit different.

Meet our Staff!

Mr. Christian Pagnani

Hello,

I’m Christian Pagnani and I teach English, Social and Art at St Gabriel Education Center. I love reading and writing in all parts of life, whether that is reading about my favourite sports, hockey and football, or reading the latest review of the new television show I just started watching. Getting students excited about the arts and current events is a challenge I relish.

When I’m not teaching, I’m spending time with friends and family. I’ve recently taken up disc golfing and love watching whatever sports are on. Restaurants or takeout are essentials as well.

I’m so thrilled to join St. Gabes this year.

ARISE! Get Up, Get Going and Go with God!

"Arise! I have appointed you as a witness of what you have seen!"

(Acts 26:16)

Our GSACRD Faith theme is in its second year of, "Arise! Get Up, Get Going and Go with God!"

This year, we are focusing on the "Get Going!" part of our theme. How do students, staff and parents know, model and witness Jesus Christ?

October - The Month of the Rosary

WHY IS OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY?

October 7th is the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, sometimes referred to as the Feast of the Holy Rosary. The day was dedicated by St. Pius V who credited a victory over the invading Turks to the intercession of Mary through the rosary. Pope Benedict XVI described the image of Our Lady of the Rosary in a 2007 Angelus:

“The traditional image of Our Lady of the Rosary portrays Mary who with one arm supports the Child Jesus and with the other is offering the rosary beads to St Dominic. This important iconography shows that the Rosary is a means given by the Virgin to contemplate Jesus and, in meditating on his life, to love him and follow him ever more faithfully. It is this message that Our Lady has also bequeathed to us in her various apparitions.”
