Air Pollution and Human Health
Heart, Lungs, Pregnancy, Brain
Abstract
Initial Questions
2. Can air pollution have a greater effect on a pregnant woman than a non-pregnant woman?
3. Do people in cities with high air pollution have unusually weak respiratory systems?
4. What are the short and long term effects of air pollution to specific areas of the body?
Hypothesis
Heart
Lungs
If you’re exposed to high pollution level, you may experience immediate symptoms. These include irritated airways, feeling out of breath and coughing. If you have a lung condition, high levels of pollution can also cause an increase of symptoms. Asthma attacks have been known to be a key symptom. People with asthma may notice that they need to use their inhaler more than normal when pollution is above what their bodies are used to. It has also been shown through research that air pollution can contribute to the development of some lung conditions. Along with that research, it has been shown that air pollution contributes to lung cancer and the development of asthma. Research also shows that if young children and babies are exposed to high levels of pollution for a long time, it can severely affect the development of their lungs.
