The Weekly Hoot
June 5-11, 2017
Greetings All -
Well, the first week of summer is already over!!! How did that happen?? By the looks of FB, many of you have been cleaning, cooking, relaxing, and some are already even traveling already! I am so jealous! All I have done is come to work and try to keep my garden picked and the vegetables canned or frozen! Why do I always think I need to have a garden??? LOL!!
First some AWESOME news!!! 2nd round fifth grade STAAR scores came in on Tuesday and they are amazing! As of this round, we have a 94% passing rate in Reading and a 95% passing rate in Math! We also have "2's" all over the board for growth, which I am thrilled about! Kudos to Mrs. Huff and Mrs. Keally, as well as all others who had a hand in helping to achieve these scores! It takes a village to raise the students we have, and there is no doubt in my mind that we are sending off our 5th graders to Jr. High better prepared than we ever have before.
The office crew has spent Tuesday-Friday here at school working on completing up items for last year and beginning to get ready for 2017-2018. Amberly and I went to a two-day Administrator Retreat with the rest of the administrators in the district to "flesh out" the next school year. It is so nice to already have dates of all known events for next year as well as iron out some ideas that we have. We are very far ahead of the game in preparations for next year due to this meeting so I am glad two days was carved out for it in the schedule.
A couple of things that will be of interest to you:
1. Next year because our school day will be from 7:50-3:20, we will have two different reporting periods for our Instructional Assistants. Some will report in at 7:20 and leave at 3:20 while some will report in at 7:45 and leave at 3:45. We will be working duty schedules around these times. If you have a preference, please text or email me and let me know. Amberly and I will try hard to honor those requests while at the same time ensuring we have enough duty coverage when needed.
2. I hinted on FB that there would be big changes coming with the parking lot map...well the big change is that there will NOT be a parking lot map. Next year, we will be having buses drop off in the morning and load in the afternoon up front in the bus lane. This opens up the parking lot more for car riders as well as opens up more parking spaces that were blocked off, so next year we will try having a "first come, first serve" parking lot.
3. Our custodial staff is busy at work already. They have the New Blue Hallway rooms already cleaned out and are waiting on wax in order to get started on the floors. It was decided that the elementary and secondary custodial staff would work together in one building at a time in order to get through with all custodial duties quickly this summer. We will find out early next week if they will be beginning at our school or the secondary. I will keep you posted.
4. Summer school is beginning on Wednesday, June 7. Mrs. Keally and Mrs. Price will be our two teachers. How lucky are the 4 students that are coming to summer school are going to have "almost" 1:1 instruction in order to prepare them for the third round of testing??
5. Amanda Sechelski and Donna Gessner are going to do the first story hour from 6-7 PM on Tuesday, June 6 with a gardening theme. Knowing those two it will be tons of fun, so please come and bring your kiddos!
Lastly, don't forget to send in photos as you are out and about doing things this summer. I have a personal one to get us started, but that is about it. Don't be shy! Email them to me if you can and you can be featured in the Hoot!
Everyone have a great week! I will see a lot of you out and about at the fair I am sure!
Love to all,
Marcy :)
