A grateful heart...
My heart is grateful for....
...Jessica, who not only does a great job as our school nurse, but also pitches in cheerfully to help when Molly and/or Lauri aren't available. I can't tell you how many times this week I heard her say, "How can I help you?" because someone needed to get into the building or was picking up a student or was calling for some reason or another.
...Kim and Donna for cheerfully taking on Bryan's class one day this week when a sub didn't pick up.
....Kami, for taking Colleen's class on Friday when a sub cancelled at the last minute.
...Tiffani, who came out to Running Club and not only ran but encouraged a student who needed some help. She has jumped in to Glenhope life with great enthusiasm and cheerfulness...she always has a smile on her face!
...Angela, for helping with the morning announcements and also being a back up for me outside. When I have to be gone, she comes outside to help with Safety Patrol and arrivals.
Feedback form
Samantha Watson used a Google form at the end of a class for students to share their thoughts. I was very impressed with the level of student ownership that is evident in these thoughtful reflections, and would like to encourage you to read through them and see how your students might be able to share reflections on their learning with you?
(She started the lesson by asking them to pick 1-2 objectives from the unit they were still struggling with and 1-2 they felt they were solid in.)
-----------------------------------------
Question: Using the I can statement, reflect about how you feel after today’s activities. Do you feel like you have mastered what you were struggling in? Why do you think that is the case?
“I can generate an equation after analyzing the data in a table or a graph.”
----------------
I feel better because i accomplished more than i thought i did.
I feel better because I did an activity that gave me problems to solve what I need to know.
I wrote a math problem and found the rule of another math problem.
I feel like i understand the additive and multiplicative problems on the graph more. I realized the difference between the two when we were doing the Print Shop I can thing.
Today I feel great about my skills in number patterns. After the Print Shop project I feel like I can move my sticky note.
I feel like i did better with seeing if it's multiplicative or additive. I also think I feeled like I mastered it because, when I kept seeing if it was it seemed easy.
I feel great and a little nervous, I know pemdas (order of operations) it's just finding the rule is kind of great for me. Also early today i put i was struggling with finding if it was additive and multiplicative and now i understand it well(really well).
Today I worked on Ixl I feel like I can move my sticky note when Ms.Watson did a small group with me and I feel like I'm ready to move on.
I think I can move over putting figures in an input output table. Today I asked a friend and she helped me improve on that skill.
I feel better about the Number Pattern step that was tricking my mind because when we went over the Sam and Terri problem step by step the light bulb clicked into my mind and I realized that it was not as hard as I thought.
I think that I mastered the rules for Number Patterns and I'm ready to move up.
I think I am ready to move on to another unit because I feel like I mastered everything in this unit .
I think that i mastered my goal today and im ready to move on
i'm ready to tack the stce(sticky) note to the i kno (I know) because i sove (solved) the rools (rules)(ELL learner)
I got better at using a rule and putting a rule in a input output table
I did a comic about how Stuart went to the toy store and also bought a LEGO set that costs $85.00! "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!" says Stuart.

Edutopia article and Sherlock visits
Constantly Share Best Practices
As a first step, work toward recognizing that, no matter how long you've been in the classroom, there will always be someone else who's more effective at a certain facet of teaching. When I was a first-year teacher, a veteran colleague inquired how I'd engaged such strong student interest in the American Revolution, something that he'd struggled with achieving. I shared my lesson plan, which culminated in a formal debate about whether the colonists had acted justly in rebelling against British rule. Moving forward, I felt more confident and comfortable about asking that colleague for help with providing quality written feedback, which he excelled at doing.
If you've already made a Sherlock visit, please write it up and put it on the board. Everyone enjoys reading what you share!
ASCD conference
None of us is real thrilled about being out (especially at the same time) but we are excited to share the terrific things you've been doing with our students with other educators from around Texas.
ADHD videos
We saw most of the segments that I felt were important for you to see, so this week I went to TED to share something that isn't new for us but I think you will enjoy. Sir Ken Robinson is always entertaining, and the subject should be familiar sounding with all our discussions about LEAD 2021.

Something that I feel we had to "disenthrall" people with was the use of grades to measure performance. How else can we revolutionize our practices?
