Reading
Oswald planned a picnic for the Superkids. They each brought something for the picnic to share, but during their walk to their picnic spot they ate all the food. Fortunately, Oswald had hid some gumdrops, so they had an odd picnic with just gumdrops to eat. Then, we began the next unit revolving around the letter v. We quickly found out that Golly got a bad cut on his paw. Some of the Superkids ran to the veterinarian to get help for Golly. She drove her van to get Golly and bring him to the animal hospital. The Superkids decided that their next activity would be to make something special for Golly, and they chose Frits as the new Supernoodle. During this unit, we have introduced the concept of singular possessives (Golly's leg). The students enjoyed thinking of other examples! We also worked on a activity to help build our reading comprehension. We read a few sentences that were missing a picture and then used what we read match each illustration to the appropriate text.

Writing
We have nearly finished our 'how to' books. There are a few final steps to add and last minute details to adjust, but we are ready to move on to opinion pieces. We will introduce how opinion pieces can be used to help gain attention or solve a problem. Students will brainstorm ideas as a class in order to think of problems they see around them. Then, they will create an opinion piece (possibly in the form of a poster) to help draw attention to the problem and give suggestions on how to solve it!
