The Sky Needs Stars
Nudge: Roberts Middle School Volume 2
Dear Roberts,
What are your force multipliers? This past week I shared with you about working smarter and not harder. I spoke about your ability to assess and determine where to put the “x” in your life and school, is key. This small act is the determinant of the success you achieve at work. The 80/20 rule teaches us 20% of your efforts yield you 80% of the results, so we have to be intentional about focusing on what works. Small group instruction is a force multiplier. Something so small, has big returns! I have read research after research about the impact that personalizing instruction has on individual students. Now that we are focusing on systematically intervening when our students struggle, this is a game changer! Our ability to tailor instruction, choose the right activity, and mentor our students have more impact on your student’s education than any other factor.
What Needs to be Done this Week:
This week as we welcome our students abroad, focus on high structure and routines within your classroom. Your students will RISE to the expectations that are given to them. Remember that expectations about how students should conduct themselves in the classroom and hallway need to be clear and constantly reminded throughout the year. Students should be at a level 0 when they are walked to the cafeteria and library. Please remember to stand at the door or in the middle of the hallway during passing periods. Roberts will always be a campus that has high standards, repeated routines, and clear expectations.
It was a busy week, but I hope you can see that you will always be valued here at Roberts. 5 distinctions are a testament of your hard work and your instructional moxie. I am so proud of you. By focusing on what matters and doing right by kids, we are not only closing gaps but are making them college ready. I like to think that we all are fixers. We take what we get, and simply make better. This is why it is important for us not to be on the sideline as educators. As educators, we have to ride the wave of best instructional practices to prepare our students. You are the right teachers and at the right time for this job. Thank you for choosing to be part of this family!
