Significance of Ash Wednesday
What is the significance of Ash Wednesday?
Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season, is a day set aside for prayer and repentance. We fast, we abstain from meat, and we get ashes as a reminder of our human frailty. It is also a day to remember the spiritual reality that surrounds us; our earthly life is only part of the journey. Yes, will die and our bodies will “return to dust.” However, it doesn’t stop there. As our bodies return to dust our souls go to heaven, hell or purgatory. Therese aren’t necessary pleasant things to think about but they are important things, nevertheless.
Therefore, Ash Wednesday is a gift. Yes, a gift. This day of repentance is a gift because it gives us the opportunity to take stock of our lives. Think of it like a “spiritual New Year” where we can access our relationship with the Lord and make steps to strengthen our relationship with HIM.
§ Have I grown in our relationship with the Lord over this past year?
§ Have I grown lax or lukewarm?
§ In what areas of my life do I need to change in order to become the person God wants me to be?
From this reflection, we can make “resolutions” or a plan of action for how we will spend our Lent this year. This is where we can decide if we need to give up coffee, sweets or something else. Or, we can work to change die-hard habits or sins which are holding us back and keeping us in bondage. Additionally, Lent is a great time to make a plan to learn more about our faith or pray the scriptures more often.
Let’s all take the time to imitate the FAITH of our Saints this Lenten Season!

Tuition Assistance
TUITION ASSISTANCE
Anyone who is interested in tuition assistance (Grades K-8) at Montini Catholic School for the 2019-2020 school year must go through a 2 step process: . Apply through Empower Illinois https://empowerillinois.org . Apply through FACTS
Please remember that the money for tuition assistance from FACTS comes from the Montini coffers. FACTS does not award any funds; they merely evaluate for need and give us their recommendations. Also, if a family receives the maximum award using the FACTS recommendation, the highest amount given is at 50% tuition. The other 50% will remain your responsibility.
The last date to file is Tuesday, April 30, 2019. You must be certified by your pastor as eligible for the Participating Parish Rate to receive any tuition assistance. There are about eight weeks in which to file for tuition assistance. I will send out weekly reminders until that time. However, it is the obligation of the parents to file before the deadline. No tuition assistance will be given to anyone who does not file this form. Filing by the April 30th date will enable us to determine if your family has received any tuition assistance before the end of the current school year. The procedure to apply is as follows:
1. Go to www.montinischool.com 2. Go to the Admissions tab 3. Click on Tuition Information 4. Scroll down to Tuition Assistance Please call me at 815-385-1022 if you have any questions about this process. Remember all applications must be done on-line and submitted by April 30th.
