Newsletter Week 10 Term 3
St Joseph's School Waipukurau 29th September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou
Congratulations to Brooke Paewai who won our school speech competition on Friday. Kassi Bray-Pharazyn placed second, Riley Winchester placed 3rd and Jayde Tipene placed 4th. All the students who took part in a school speech competition were outstanding and all should be very proud of their talent to be able to get up and do public speaking. The junior students were also outstanding with their speeches and poems they presented to the school.
Brooke and Kassi went on to represent our school at the Rotary Speech Competition on Monday night.
Congratulations to Brooke who came second at the Rotary Speech Competition! This is a fabulous achievement. Both girls did extremely well and did our school proud!
Congratulations to Riley Winchester, Jonty Kohleis, and Chloe Hutchinson who presented our school at the CHB inter-school cross country on Thursday last week. Jonty and Riley both ran fantastic races, Riley came in 5th out of 21 runners, unfortunately, Jonty rolled his ankle and broke a bone in his foot. We wish Jonty a speedy recovery.
Both Riley and Jonty made the Ross Shield team this year and were capped this weekend. Due to Level 2 COVID restrictions, it will be lived streamed for spectators to view.
Please see the link attached below "2021 Ross Shield Sideline.Live". The cost is an amazing $9.95 to watch all games throughout the week. The committee has negotiated long and hard to create this opportunity for the Ross Shield Whanau.
Unfortunately over the weekend, we had some vandalism and 6 of the new signs were ripped down damaging them and some of the stones which were cemented into the ground were pulled out and used to throw at the signs. Luckily we have security cameras and the police are now dealing with the youths who caused the damage. If you ever see someone up to know good on the school property please dial 111 immediately.
A reminder that Friday is a Teacher Only Day and school is closed for instruction.
Wishing everyone a relaxing and fun-filled break over the next two weeks and I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4.

Swimming Lessons in Term 4
Due to the generous donation from Swim 4 Life, all of our students will be taking part in a 9-week swimming programme in term 4. Each week the students will receive lessons.
Rooms 1, 2, and 3 will have their lessons on Tuesday and Rooms 4, 5 and 6 will have their lessons on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child/ren bring their swimming togs each week.
Please note that in Level 2 on the students will be at the pool as it is closed to the public when school groups attend.
Lessons will start from week 1 and run through to the end of the term.
Because all the students will be doing lessons each week this means that the regular swimming lessons on a Tuesday will not be happening and will resume in Term 1 next year.
School Fun Run 2021
Thank you to all the students who took part in the fun run and raised money for our sacred space.
We have sent in the order for the prizes and these will arrive at school early in term 4.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL LEADERS
Kia ora everyone this is the last week of this term, until the two week break and then it will be term 4. Hopefully, everyone had an awesome weekend and spent time with their family. This Friday we don't have school because it's teachers only, so make sure not to come to school on this day. Make sure you have a great and awesome last week of this term.
The Ross Shield is a five day competition on the first week of the holidays where the best Hawkes Bay rugby teams face each other for the Ross shield trophy. There are a few more trophies to win during the week but the Ross Shield is the main one.

PFG Update
End of the term already!!
We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing break. The PFG has some big things happening next term, which makes it a very busy time for us. Keep watching the newsletter and our Facebook page for updates, news, and all the happenings with us.
Quiz night
We are currently searching for a bigger venue so we can run this in November within level 2 restrictions if we haven't moved to level 1. Those that have tables booked still hold those tables, we will communicate dates further once we have secured a new venue.
We are still asking for donations towards the evening please, if you or someone you know can help with an item, voucher or service then please reach out to us. There are also still tables available, so snap one up before they are all gone!!
Lunches
These will resume term 4! Please send the correct change with your child/children for their order.
What is the PFG
The PFG (parents and friends group) is the volunteer fundraising committee for the school. We run events, arrange lunch orders, do raffles, sell items, and other fundraising ideas to raise money to put back into the school. By doing this we are able to provide some added extras into the classrooms to aid with learning, help towards school camps, contribute to other needed causes and purchase some dream ideas. We are currently tackling a big goal of raising funds for a new playground on top of the above needs - this is a long term goal for us so you will see us saying often that we are raising funds for a new playground.
If you can help us at any stage with your time or in any other way please get in touch. Stjosephspfg@gmail.com Find us on Facebook: St Joseph's Parents and Friends Group - Waipukurau
Warm regards
The PFG committee
