We had an amazing Powhiri on Tuesday to welcome the trophies to our Kura. A big thanks to Whaea Raewyn, Matua Shane Cassidy and Whaea Lena for the amazing Powhiri. Also thanks to Ashy and Jada from Highlands who were our Karanga for the Powhiri.
See below for the photos.
Today we celebrated our annual Hangi - a massive thanks to everyone who donated food items. A special mention to SPUDZ, Vintage Industries, Simon Caswell (Mitre 10), Dave Hare, Paul Horo and Clint Ansell who all helped out in their own special ways - thanks team.
Once again the food was cooked to perfection and a big thanks to the Paetoki team of teachers who not only prepared all the food with the kids, but also stayed overnight last night to get the Hangi ready at 4am. We apologise for the weather, but I must say a massive thanks to all our Kaiako (teachers) for being adaptable and professional! Ka mau te wehi whanau!
A massive well done to Jathan Jansen who won the annual 'Golden Bat' competition! Jathan and Quinn Hall both showed skill and wit in the final! It was epic to watch and we were all engaged by the masterclass these two put on! Ka mau te wehi to both of you!
We now move on to the 'Golden Hand' competition!
As we begin our planning for 2023, we would love some voice from our community around our 'Strategic Plan for 2023 and beyond'. If you have 5 minutes, could you please give us some feedback under our 6 strategic areas in the Google Form below - we really appreciate the support. We will also have a whiteboard and some post its at the gates over the next 2 weeks to try and get some 'genuine' community feedback for how we operate at Vogeltown School.
Have an awesome weekend whanau! We hope it does not rain all weekend! Spend some quality time with your awesome kids - they are all fantastic!
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,

ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available
from the school office.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period runs from 1 February 2023 to 6 April 2023.
The second enrolment period runs from 24 April 2023 to 30 June 2023.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students
turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely
to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by
16 December 2022. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments
received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt
of out of zone places is Friday 3 February 2023. Application for enrolment for an out of
zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the
school office and off our school website). Applications can be sent via email to
office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2023
should apply by 30th September 2022 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2023
school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the
number of places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with
instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on
Tuesday 7 February 2023.
Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Friday 10 February
2023.

BUCKET HATS!
We have noticed a lot of our tamariki (children) are not wearing hats at present - we continue to remind our learners each day, but the message is only slowly getting through. We had some very hot days this week and this really confirmed the importance of wearing hats.
As the term goes on we are expecting the temperatures to climb even more and this means the sun is more intense. Thanks for your support with this policy, whanau. We do sell Vogeltown bucket hats at the school office but any bucket hat is fine to wear.

It is a fun day and an awesome event to be part of. We will have our Vogeltown gazebo at Ngamotu Beach as a base for our tamariki. The event usually sells out so get in early if you are keen as it will be very popular because we haven’t had it for a couple of years!

YEAR 5 AND 6 CAMP, 2023
Every 2 years, we hold a camp for all our Year 5 and 6 students. Our 2023 camp will be held from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February at Vertical Horizon in Inglewood.
The cost of camp will be $155 per child. We are part of the Ministry of Education's donation scheme, but would still appreciate donations towards the cost of camp. We have loaded the camp fees onto Kindo so that families are able to spread the cost out over the coming months. Cash and EFTPOS payments will also be welcomed.
Our camp cannot function without parent support. If you would like to attend camp as a parent helper, you will need to complete a Police Vetting Form. These can be collected from the Senior Office. We also need to sight one form of photographic ID.
More information about camp will continue to become available over the coming months.
Regards
The Paetoki Team
