Growing Concerns About School Shutdowns
Now that there are several cases of COVID-19 in the San Diego area, there is a growing concern among our leadership that San Diego County Health Department may take the drastic action of closing school campuses for two weeks, similar to the school district in Washington. This is based purely on speculation, but we wanted to let you know that we have contingency plans in place for a situation such as this one. We will take direction from both the CDC as well as the County Health Department.
In the event that our school campus has to temporarily close for an extended period of time, we would do our best to continue the kids education program with them learning remotely. In classrooms 3-8 assignments and monitoring will happen through Google Classroom and in the younger grades work will be sent home. In order for us to collect ADA and attendance we will ensure that kids are completing their work. The school will be in contact daily with updates and assignments. We would also continue to forward any information about timelines for reopening campus.
The hope is that we will never have to use this plan but if the spread continues the school will be prepared and will do our best to support all students and families. We hope that this message calms any fears you might have about what would happen in the event of an extended stoppage of onsite classes.
Warmly,
Sarah Saluta
When To Keep Your Kids Home Sick
SDCCS continues to follow the guidance from the California Department of Public Health for COVID-19.
As of now, this includes the directive to ‘Send students, teachers, and staff who present with fever and/or respiratory infection symptoms home immediately’. This is being done to prevent the spread of any infection.
If your child has a runny nose, cough, sore throat, and/or fever please keep them home until they are better. If they come to school, they will be sent home.
We are taking all precautions to keep our community safe, your help is greatly appreciated.
Handwashing Guidelines
Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way
Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and workplace to childcare facilities and hospitals.
Follow these five steps every time.
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
