Important Reopening Information

Good evening CNUSD Families,

As you know, on Nov. 3, 2020 the Riverside County Public Health Officer and the California Department of Public Health has approved the Corona-Norco Unified School District’s TK-6 Waiver application to reopen elementary schools for in-person instruction.

Tonight, after discussion and consideration of the current increasing county COVID case rates as well as parent and staff survey results, the Board of Education voted (3-2) to reopen elementary schools after winter break as follows:

  • Year-Round Elementary Schools: Jan. 4, 2021
  • Traditional Elementary Schools: Jan. 11, 2021

What will Instructional Models look like?

  • Our Elementary Schools will operate in a 50% capacity. Students will be split into Cohorts A & B and will alternate between in-person and remote learning.
  • For example, Cohort A will be an AM cohort which attends school Monday through Thursday mornings and work independently at home in the afternoon.
  • Cohort B will be a PM cohort which attends school Monday through Thursday afternoons and work independently at home in the mornings.
  • On Fridays both cohorts will learn from home in a remote learning environment.

When will we know our cohort assignment?

  • Details regarding cohort assignments will be shared with families in the weeks leading up to school reopening. We will provide ample time for parents to plan accordingly.

I am not comfortable sending my child back to school. Can I switch from traditional to virtual?

  • Families who are not comfortable sending their students back to in-person instruction, may transfer to our virtual program as space allows. Parents interested in transferring programs should reach out to their school site administration to submit a request prior to Dec. 8, 2020.

Can I still request a device for my student?

How has CNUSD prepared for the return to in-person instruction?

Parents can expect to hear further details from their school site principal regarding cohort assignments, pickup and drop off information, and bell schedules in the weeks prior to school reopening.

Corona-Norco Unified School District

A message from our AMAZING PTA

Moving forward, it’s going to look different for the upcoming school year. We have to be mindful and sensitive to our families, and their financial hardships due to Covid. Therefore, we will not be having any major events or fundraisers this year. This includes APEX, Fall Festival, Imagination Machine, Family Prom, etc. We will, however, have passive fundraisers such as eating out at restaurants at various times throughout the year. This will be a “recovery year” for our families. Our goal as the PTA is to advocate for them and give back to the community as best as we can while providing support from a distance.

The new changes for the year also means new members. I am pleased to announce our board members for 2020-2021. They are:

President - Jennifer Castro

Vice President - Patty Franco

Treasurer - Brandee Hardister

Secretary - Brittany Konopacki

Advocacy - Jesse Sandoval

VP of Programs - Lucy Razo

Historian - Gina Thumar

Auditor - Michelle Gardner and Lisa Foster

Parent Engagement - Tiffany Boyse

Spirit Wear - Jackie Shires

Means and Ways - Blake and Meghan Lemke

I leave you with our last event of the year, our first VanderMolen’s Virtual Variety Show. I am extremely proud of how our students shared their talent in different ways. Please take the time to watch our little heroes perform and share the link! Enjoy!
