Franklin County 4-H News - June 23, 2020

Fair Entry Deadline June 30

June 1 - June 30

Reminders:

  • Every family must log in using the family email address that was used to enroll in 4-H this year and make their fair entries for the entire family. Club advisors are unable to make the entries for the members.

  • We understand that this is sometimes a confusing process. If at any point you don't understand what is expected, please feel free to contact someone for help.
    - franklincountyjuniorfair@gmail.com

  • VERY IMPORTANT! DO NOT CHECK OUT UNTIL ALL MEMBERS IN THE FAMILY HAVE MADE THEIR FAIR ENTRIES. The system will not allow you to check out and then start another person's entries. Before you begin, make sure you have your whole family's entry information. If a change needs to be made after submitting entries, you must contact franklincountyjuniorfair@gmail.com

  • WE RECOMMEND PRINTING THE INSTRUCTIONS TO USE AS A GUIDE WHILE MAKING YOUR ENTRIES.

Accomodations for Project Evaluations

If you have a disability and have questions about accessibility or wish to request accommodations, please contact Beth at boomershine.10@osu.edu.

Livestock Sale Update

The Franklin County Fair will be operating at a significant monetary loss without revenue from general fair admission or entry fees. Even so, they want to provide our Junior Fair participants the opportunity to exhibit the projects they have been planning for and working on all year.

This situation is unprecedented and we are calling on our community to help us support these incredible kids and honor their efforts!

The Franklin County Fair is a 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. Their mission is to ensure that during these uncertain times, they provide the best possible experience for our youth.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Whether you are a business or individual, you can help with a donation of any size in support of either the Junior Fair Fund or the Livestock Sale Fund. Where does your money go?

  • Livestock Sale Fund: Donations toward this fund will be compiled into a pool that will be distributed among livestock exhibitors as substitute for the traditional live auction. Your donations help exhibitors cover project expenses, fund future projects and any excess funds are typically put toward college savings. Interested in purchasing meat? If you are interested in purchasing an animal for your own consumption or for donation to the Mid Ohio Food Collective, get details here.

  • Junior Fair Fund: Donations toward this fund support all Junior Fair youth, including non-livestock exhibitors. Donations to this fund support judging, ribbons and other show-related expenses.

DONATE ONLINE or MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO “FRANKLIN COUNTY AG SOCIETY” and SEND VIA MAIL TO THE FAIR OFFICE AT P.O. Box 288, HILLIARD, OH 43026. (Please indicate which fund you are supporting on your check.)

Thank you for your consideration and support during these challenging times! We are certainly all #InThisTogether for our Junior Fair Youth!

MARKET ANIMAL PICTURE SUBMISSIONS

For 2020, we are asking willing exhibitor to provide a presentable picture with their animal. Pictures will be used for a display / slideshow on the fair’s website or the county 4-H website. Please note, the youth must have an approved photo release on file with the Franklin County 4-H extension office before the photo will be displayed. You only need to submit one photo per project. You will need to fill out a new survey for every project.

Please contact Rachel at stoneburner.31@osu.edu if you have any questions.

Junior Fair Store Now Open

Looking for the perfect fair apparel?

The Junior Fair Board is selling Franklin County Fair Apparel to raise funds on the fairgrounds. Orders can be placed until July 5 . Items can be picked up at the Franklin County Fairgrounds during any fair event. Check out the online store here.

FAIRGROUNDS TRASH CAN PAINTING CONTEST UPDATE

The 2020 Franklin County Fair Trash Can Painting Contest has been postponed until 2021. If your club already has a trash can, you can keep it until 2021 or you can return it to the fairgrounds. The fairgrounds does not have a need for those trash cans already in your clubs possession during this years modified fair.

Horse Projects

As stated above, no pre-fair grading will take place but all members who wish to participate in the show must turn in a completed project book at the show check in.

This year, there will be two horse shows. An English show on Saturday, July 25, and a Western show on Sunday, July 26. In order to create social distance during the show, horse exhibitors may only show in one show and must make a fair entry for the show of their choice - English or Western.

Horse Relationship, Horse Partnership, and No Horse on Exhibit Projects

  • Horse Relationship, Horse Partnership, and project evaluations for individuals that do not bring their horse to the show will take place on Monday, July 20, beginning at 10:00am in the Ganyard Building. An appointment process is being established and will be made available to those that make fair entries for these projects.

Dog Show

The junior fair dog show is being postponed until August 28 and 29, at the new ARF Location on Eastgate Parkway. Exhibitors should still make their fair entry online before June 30.

Reminders About Fair

We are still diligently working to provide a plan for 4-H project evaluations. While those plans are still being developed, there are some things that unfortunately won't take place this year and others that will look very different.

  • There will not be any club booths this year.

  • There will not be any on-site camping on the grounds this year.

  • There will not be gate admission to the fair this year. On-site events will be strictly limited to junior fair participants and immediate family members.

  • Livestock and horse shows will happen one per day and members would be present only for the show they are showing in. The animals will not stay for an entire week. See the schedules below. Pre-fair livestock and horse evaluations will not take place this year. All livestock and horse project books will be turned in at show check-ins. Participants MUST submit a completed book in order to be eligible to show.

  • 4-H project evaluations that usually take place in the tent will take place in the Ganyard and Edwards Buildings. Entrance into the buildings will be limited to those currently being evaluated. An appointment system is being established and will be shared with those that make entries. Award ceremonies will take place virtually. Youth will have their project evaluated and then leave the grounds with their project. Projects will not stay on the grounds for display.

  • The livestock sale committee is working to provide some sort of sale opportunity for market animals. Details are close to being finalized and separate communications will be shared soon about that.

  • Per state and local guidelines for fairs, mouth/nose coverings will be required unless the exhibitor is in the show ring.

  • Alternatives for project completion will be available to anyone who is uncomfortable with in-person project evaluations without penalty. Fair entries ARE still required for alternative completion. Simply make a fair entry for the project and then contact Rachel Stoneburner to be added to the alternative completion list.

  • There are no fees for fair entries this year and no entry passes to purchase. Due to the modified events, the fair board is offering these events for free at a significant monetary loss in order to provide a positive youth development experience for 4-H members.

  • Every exhibitor who participates this year will receive a junior fair t-shirt!
Fair entry AND participation is required.
