Newsletter 21 - 18 July 2018
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
A big welcome back to all students and families to Term 3. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break and are ready for another busy term.
We welcome back Mrs Danaher from Long Service Leave and look forward to Mrs McGougan, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Stritzke returning in the next few weeks.
PARKING UPDATE
You would have noticed a change to our front carpark with new parking lines drawn in. This has not only made parking spaces clearer but has given us some extra parking bays. Please remember that this front carpark is ideal for parents of Kindergarten, Pre-Primary or any parent picking up their child from the classroom. The Kiss and Ride system is for pick-up and drop-off only. Please note that there is no parking along this area after 2:30pm.
MOTOR NEURONE DAY
This Friday we will support the MND Association by raising awareness and by fund raising to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease, an illness that claimed the life of a much-loved staff member of Whitford Catholic, Mrs Denise Millard, in 2002. For a gold coin donation, children will receive a blue cornflower and may also dress in blue on the day. We will also be selling raffle tickets for 50c this week for a chance to win a Tiny Tots table and hair set. Thank you to the Vigliotta family (Sienna, 4W and Alessio, 2W) for their kind donation. A guest speaker will also be addressing the children about Motor Neurone Day at a special assembly this Friday commencing at 2:00pm. We look forward to contributing to this worthwhile cause and seeing a sea of blue at assembly.
STUDENT MINISTRIES AND HOUSE CAPTAINS
At this Friday’s assembly we will also be blessing and presenting badges to our new student ministries and house captains. A gratitude of thanks must go to Year 6 Gold who represented their ministries with great pride and to the House Captains for their enthusiasm shown towards leading their faction.
FUTURE WEATHER PRESENTERS
Congratulations to our Year 3 WCPS netball girls who were given the opportunity to present the weather on Channel 9 recently. Not only did you represent our school with great pride but your weather predictions were spot on!
NEW PARISH SACRAMENTAL COORDINATOR
Mrs Patricia Starkie has been appointed as the permanent part-time OLM Parish Sacramental Coordinator effective this week. Mrs Starkie is well versed with the parish life and serves in a number of areas ranging from Children's Liturgy, Stewardship Ministry, Parish Council and has signed up to be part of our Parish Plenary Council lead-team. Mrs Starkie is a teacher by profession and has served in Human Resources in other places; making her really suitable for this role. The school looks forward to supporting Mrs Starkie in her new role.
ALBION PARK MURAL
Have you checked out our amazing mural on Albion Park? Thanks to Chris Nixon for the wonderful job you did of turning something ordinary into extraordinary. Some Year 5 and 6 students were lucky enough to take part in an art workshop as well.
Have a super week.
God bless
Andrew De Maio

Library News
Book Week: Find Your Treasure: Book Week will be held in Week 6 of Term 3 this year and the theme sets us up to find the goldmine of adventures that lie in books. Many books become the treasures we take with us into adulthood. They capture our imagination, we feel connected to them and they hold a special place in our heart. They are treasured. The dress-up parade may not be until Friday 24th August but you can all start thinking of those characters and books that you treasure. The short-list for 2018 can be viewed at https://www.cbca.org.au/short-list-2018
The Great Book Swap: Thank you everyone for your tremendous support of the Great Book Swap. We raised $630 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. You continue to astound me with your incredible support. Great work!
Year 1 History: Thank you to the wonderful grandparents who came to the Year 1 “In the past…” Grandparent sessions. The students learnt so much about the “olden days.” Who would have thought that there was so much you could do without an iPad. We are blessed to have these wonderful keepers of the stories in our lives. The Year 1s have learnt that you only have to ask.
