Our Reading Groups
In small-group settings, instructors can provide more individualized support and tailored instruction to meet the needs of each learner. This allows for targeted intervention for struggling readers and additional challenges for more advanced learners. Phonics groups focus specifically on teaching phonics skills, which are essential for developing early reading proficiency. By targeting this foundational aspect of literacy, these groups provide structured instruction that helps learners build a strong foundation in reading. Phonics instruction is strongly correlated with early reading success. By mastering phonics skills, learners gain the ability to decode words accurately and fluently, which is crucial for comprehension and overall reading proficiency.

We encourage reading through many different programs at Dayton Elementary School. We are excited for our upcoming family event. Please come and join us for a fun evening of community readers and DJ dancing. Students and families will listen to community readers read books and then head to the MPR to dance their wiggles out! The first 100 students will get a shirt to collect all their favorite autographs on. The event will include a reading fort in our library as well as a photo booth provided by the DJ. All students who attend will receive a free book and a snack to take home and enjoy!
Students have the opportunity to participate in the Read2Ride program through Silverwood. Read 600 minutes and receive a free ticket to Silverwood!
We also use Accelerated Reading program in the classroom to promote reading. Students read books and take comprehension tests in which they can earn points. The points will earn them prizes and recognition at the school assemblies.
