Summary
The Dutch Revolt was a personal battle between countries. The Dutch had felt the Spanish king Philip II was only helping out the the Spanish people an leaving the Dutch people. Philip ii wanted to build a stable and trustworthy government in the Netherlands, so he declared his sister Margaret of parma the governor. Margaret of parma was catholic but put up with the protests and they grew which made Philip ii very angry so he fired her.William of orange land was fortified to the Spanish king.In 1568, William returned to try and drive the highly unpopular Duke of Alva from Brussels. William's nominal purpose was to remove misguided ministers like Alba, end rebellion, and restores the proper authority of King Phillip. In trying to stop the raides Alba the Duke kidnapped williams son, which angered willam. Willaim of orange oragnized a amrmy with the help from France and England and that was the dircet cuase of the war. The first 50 years is a battle between the Netherlands and spain. The next 30 years was when they were tied up in the 30 years war. Which lead the Dutch Revolt to have the other name of the 80s year war. That led to a truce which was called "The 12 years truce." The Netherlands was recognized as an individual outside country by outside powers but still technology belonged to Spain. The second part of the war ended with the peace of Westphalia. The Netherlands were perminantly seperated spain which in turn became the Dutch Republic.
The Cause and Course of the Dutch Revolt
The main cause of the Dutch Revolt was the Dutch felt the king of Spain was only heping an only cared about the spanish people and did not care aout the needs of the Dutch people.
The direct cause of conflict was when the duke of Alba kidnapped Willams of orange son to get him to stop the raids against him.

1579-1609 Spain wins back the lower countries- back to North vs Spain
William the Silent or william of orange
He started the raids aginst Alba. When Alba kidnapped his son, he organized an army with the outside help of France and England.
Margaret of Parma
(28 December 1522 – 18 January 1586) was Governor of the Neatherlands from 1559 to 1567 and from 1578 to 1582. She was the illegitimate daughter of the then 22-year-old Holy Roman Emperor Charles Vand Johanna Maria van der Gheyhet. She was a Duchess of Florence and a Duchess of Parma and Piacenza by marriage.
Philip 11
There was discontent in the Netherlands about Philip's taxation demands, and the incessant persecution of Protestants. In 1566, Protestant preachers sparked anti-clerical riots known as the Iconoclast Fury; in response to growing Protestant influence, the Duke of Alba's army went on the offensive, further alienating the local aristocracy.
The Duke of Alba
He was sent to restore power in 1567. He arrested about 15000 people and exicuted about 1000.
Outcome of the War
The Netherlands were permently seperated from Spain and the Dutch Republic was born.

The Dutch fought for religious freedom and wanted to indpent from Spain. They won and created the Dutch Republic
