Honoring our Veterans . . .
We had a wonderful day at Titus celebrating veterans. Once again we assembled our Wall of Honor, a Titus tradition for over 15 years. Photos of veterans in the families of Titus staff and students line the glass windows in our rotunda. We have also expanded our celebration of veterans the last few years to include a Veterans Day Gathering. Our program includes defining veterans and Veterans Day. Then we show a wonderful photographic tribute to the veterans. All of the pictures from the Wall of Honor appear one after another to the soundtrack of some beautiful patriotic music. It’s very moving and every year we see teary eyes among our staff.
This year we had some very special guests join us - Titus' own Veterans. Once introduced, they led the entire school in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our staff and students have great respect for veterans and we appreciate the opportunity to show it!
Expanding our Classrooms . . .
Mrs. Landis’ class skyped with Captain Sarah Wilson, Mrs. Landis’ sister-in-law, on Veterans Day to not only thank her for her service as a doctor stationed at Scott Air Force Base, but also to learn about her experience as a doctor who traveled to desolate parts of Nepal to provide medical attention to people in need. Captain Wilson was able to help the students broaden their view of the world and the students were curious to learn about the Nepalese culture as well as Captain Wilson’s role in the work she completed. Some of Mrs. Landis’ students are currently reading a passage titled, Doctors Without Borders, so Dr. Wilson was a real life example of what they are reading in the classroom.

Treat or Treat for UNICEF . . .

Rest assured that this money will be put to good use around the globe to help children receive clean water, medication, nutrition, and education!
Book Dedications . . .
Why dedicate a book to the Titus Library?
- To celebrate a birthday
To honor a family member or friend
To say “thank you” to a teacher
To remember someone special
For your donation of $20, we will order a book for you, place a book plate in the book with your message on it, notify the person in whose honor it was given, and allow your child to be the first to check it out. The dedication form can be found on the Titus web site, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. Moore, Titus librarian.
Volunteers Needed . . .
Titus is looking for some volunteers to help out around the school. There are a variety of opportunities across the grade-levels - days, times, and tasks all vary. Home & School Association:
Race For Education . . .
Congratulations to Kylie Hughes (5th grade - Mrs. Bucher) and Joey Lucas (2nd grade - Miss. Brennan). Kylie and Joey were our Race4Ed raffle winners. Kylie won a $100.00 gift card for bringing in 15 labels by September 15th and Joey a $25.00 gift card for Bertucci's, for his family donation to the "stamp fund." We celebrated the students and all of Titus last Friday during our culminating Race4Ed event. It was a great day for all. Stay tuned for the final dollar amount to be revealed in the near future, and don't forget . . . Race donations will be accepted until June, 2014! Thank you for all of your support throughout our Race4Ed campaign!
Spiritwear . . .
You should have received a copy of our Fall 2013 Spiritwear Order Form in your child's Wednesday Folder. Please note that the Spiritwear order is due on November 20, 2013. We will notify the parents when their order is ready to either be picked up (if it's a gift) or sent home with their child. We will do our best to quickly get the orders in to the vendor, but there is no guarantee that the items will arrive and/or be available before the holidays.
Online Holiday Shopping With Box Tops . . . .
If you are doing any of your shopping online this holiday season, please consider using the Box Tops website as your search engine. Titus can earn from 1-10 Box Tops for every $10 that you spend. There are hundreds of stores such as Toys “R” Us, Macys, Kohl’s, Target and Justice. You can use any coupons that you normally would be able to use. All you need to do is go to www.BoxsTops4Education.com and create a profile designating that you would like Florence D. Titus Elementary as your recipient of your Box Tops. Then just click on the “Earn Online” section of the Box Tops webpage and click on whichever store you would like to shop from. You can even use these earnings for our Rita’s Water Ice contest by printing out the Box Tops earnings page after you are done shopping and have your child put it in their Box Tops can in their classroom.
Teacher Conference Dinner . . .
Our hospitality committee puts together a nice sit-down dinner for our teachers during the week of conferences. This year the dinner will be served on Tuesday, November 26th. Click here and sign-up if you'd like to contribute to this event.
Toys for Tabor . . .
The season of giving is almost upon us and once again Titus will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for our annual Toys for Tabor collection. The collection will run from November 1st through December 5th. The children in need range from infant through 21 years of age. There will be decorated collection boxes in the lobby for your donations. For many, these will be the only holiday gifts they receive this year. The children who benefit from your generosity are extremely grateful. Please contact Kathryn Doerr with any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your support!
Secret Shop. . .
The Secret Shop is looking for volunteers for this great event. The shop runs December 4th & 5th, and it is a highlight for many children. We're using VolunteerSpot to organize our upcoming activity. If you are interested in volunteering please click here.
