Culturally Responsive Teaching for MLs Podcast
Here is a free podcast from Support Ed with speaker Tan Huyn.
Always important to take into perspective where our students are coming from and how their world views might be framed and informed by cultural needs different then the one predominant in Canadian education.

Pro D Opportunity for Feb 7, 2022: Living in Two Worlds
Wow, Old School!
Have you got a great classroom pic to share? Switch this out for yours!
Living in Two Worlds: Culturally aware classrooms and Islamic students
In this hour and a half session, we will discuss the complexities of a culturally diverse classroom, specifically focused on the needs of a growing population in our schools - the Islamic community. With an influx of refugees and new immigrants from Muslim nations, it becomes imperative for all members of the classroom (teachers, educational assistants, and students) to celebrate diversity in a culturally sensitive manner. Be prepared to explore cultural and religious practices, including Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, while developing an awareness of the many facets of the lived experience of Islamic students and their families. This session is open to everyone.
Maternity Leave Announcement
As some of you know, I will be stepping away from my role with the district to welcome a new member to our family and start my maternity leave.
My dear friend and colleague, Sarah Marshall, will be the Learning Coordinator working with the ELL portfolio. Easy for you! Same first name to remember. If you have any questions, please connect with me or Sarah.
This district is fortunate to have such a strong group of passionate and active ELL teachers and it has been a great pleasure to be a part of this team. Thank you for your help and support and I look forward to connecting with you upon my return to work in 2023.
