GOOD FATS VS. BAD FATS
FATS
SATURATED FATS
This is the fat that comes mostly from animal sources of food. Saturated fat raises total blood cholesterol levels which can raise your risk of cardiovascular disease. Saturated fat will also raise your risk for type 2 diabetes.
MONOUNSATURATED
This is the fat found in a lot of foods and oils. eating foods with lots of monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) improves blood cholesterol levels, which can lower your risk of heart disease. MUFAs may benefit insulin levels and blood sugar control, which can be very helpful if you have type 2 diabetes.
OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS
Omega-3, found in only some types of fatty fish, appears to lower the risk of coronary artery disease. It will also protect you against irregular heartbeats and will help lower blood pressure levels.
POLYUNSATURATED FATS
This is a type of fat found in lots of plant-based foods and oils. Research proves that eating foods with lots of polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) helps blood cholesterol levels, which can lower your risk of heart disease.
TRANS FAT
Lots of trans fats are made from oils through a food processing method called partial hydrogenation. By hydrogenating oils, they become easier to cook with and to not likely spoil than do naturally occurring oils.
