Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 25th October 2019
Pupils on a Pilgrimage
In the steps of Cistercian Monks
Thanks are due to Year 5 for helping Fountains Abbey to design a new pilgrimage resource. Here are a few key quotes to describe their day on Monday:
'Our exciting hunt in the Cathedral revealed pilgrimage links to Fountains Abbey and how money was gifted to the monks to begin the monastery.'
'The Boxing Day Route was a very long way- we know how the monks must have felt after their long journeys! Lunch never tasted so good!'
'We climbed up to the pulpit, designed mosaic tiles and practised sign language inside the abbey ruins!'
'We have been working with Fountains Abbey to design the pilgrimage resource. We have lots of feedback to help develop the activities!'
Pirate Adventures
EYFS have had an amazing two weeks learning about pirates. We have done some fantastic pirate writing, measuring out treasure, drawing and labelling our own maps, digging for treasure, walking the plank, making telescopes and treasure chests, making yummy tuna pirate ships and helping create our very own pirate ship. After the half term break we will be learning about superheroes so if anyone has any costumes or figures their children no longer want, then anything will be very gratefully received.
Year 1 at the town hall!
They were treated like VIPs and enjoyed meeting the Mayor of Ripon. Thank you to all who attended and for being fabulous ambassadors for our school.
Year 4 Welcome Worship

Message from the Friends
What a fantastic start to the school year! We can't believe that the first half term is over.
The friends have not only found one secretary but two! They are Jo and Lou.
Co-Secretary - Jo
I’ve recently changed careers from working in a call centre to caring for the elderly, and I am absolutely loving it! Elsie my eldest is in Year 1, who many of you parents may already know as she’s such a chatterbox. I also have a little boy George who has just turned 2 whose favourite things are eating and playing in mud. I’m looking forward to getting more involved with the Friends in my new role.
Co-Secretary - Lou
I’m Louise but known as Lou. My daughter Lacey is in Year 2 and I’m so proud she’s her class ambassador. My son McKenzie goes to Forest school in Knaresborough and is also a councillor for his class. I’ve predominantly worked in HR, but currently run my own chemical free cleaning business. I most enjoy spending time with my family. Most people will know Lacey as she’s so friendly, smiley and always giving hugs. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends and enjoying this journey.
You should have received a letter in book bags about having a stall at Ripon Cathedral School Christmas Fair on Thursday 5th December 3.15-5.00 (look out for it after the break if not already sent home). Tables are £5 each. Please fill this form and return to the school after half term. If you need more information or another copy of the letter please email us: rcpsfriends@gmail.com
The children have the chance for their creations to be featured on the poster for the Christmas Fair. They can write/decorate the word CHRISTMAS and draw 3 Christmas drawings. Each drawing must stay within the lines of the boxes. This sheet will come home straight after the break and must be returned Friday 15th November at the latest. It is also featured below. If you are able to save and print it, it would be great to have some designs in straight after the break, thank you.
We have also been sending a lovely letter written by one of the pupils at the school asking for raffle prizes from local businesses. However if you have a business and haven't had a letter and wish to donate a raffle prize please get in touch and we can organise collection or drop off.
Our next meeting is Tuesday 5th November 3.15pm in school. Feel free to come and join us!
Dates coming up:
School Disco - Friday 22nd November. Infants: 5.30-6.30, juniors: 6.45-7.45
Christmas Fair - Thursday 5th December 3.00-5.30
We hope everyone has a great half term and we can't wait to see everyone afterwards.
