Summer Happenings!!
Camp Invention 2019
Camp Invention was held at East Elementary School the week after school was out. We had a total of 55 students ranging from incoming 3rd graders to outgoing 5th graders. Camp Invention was taught by certified teachers from our school district. We had four teachers, two volunteers, one food service person, and two parent volunteers. Students learned about radio frequencies, trademarks, archaeology, and farm technology. It was a blast and the students, parents, and all the staff had a wonderful time! A huge thanks goes out to Catherine Morgan for being the coordinator of this week long event!
East Summer School
We did a 4 week-long academic summer school program that ran from July 8th to August 1. Forty-seven students ranging from incoming 3rd graders to outgoing 5th graders attended. Eleven students made 1 year's growth in reading and 16 students are now reading at grade-level expectation. Sixteen students made 1 year's growth in math and 19 are now testing at grade-level expectation. An engaging STEM activity was done each Friday and we ended the program with an awarding trip to the Chelan waterslides for students with a 70% attendance rate. Kudos to 4th grade teacher, Kara Thornton for coordinating our summer school program. Summer school teachers included Kara, Melissa Thomason, and Catherine Morgan. Support staff wer Connie McCormack, Chris Scroggins, and Jodi Porteous.
Back-to-School Night
East Curriculum Night
We had over 300 people at our Curriculum Night on September 19th! Easton the Eagle welcomed families, burgers were served, and students excitedly showed off their classrooms, the school, and our school garden!
East School Garden
We are seeing the "fruits and veggies" of our labor from last spring in our school garden! Students are spending time in our school garden during recess and families were able to go out and harvest zucchini, squash, and onions on our Curriculum Night on September 19th! We will have a fall garden work party on October 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All are welcome to join as we expand the current area and begin the creation of our outdoor classroom!
Save the Date! October 28th from 5:00 - 7:00 at McDonalds! 25% of the proceeds will come back to East!
