Art to Remember
What's Happening This Week?
· Writer's Workshop: We will begin working on a unit to build strength in writing constructed responses. Students have done a good job of turning questions into answers. Now we are going to practice pulling details from the text to support our answer.
· Reader's Workshop: As we read about giant pandas, we will also be practicing the skill of giving a concise summary.
Word Study: After some difficulty launching our word study program, the bugs have been worked out and we are back on track. Thank you for your patience. Students will be bringing home a list on Mondays to study. They will be taking their test on Fridays.
· Math Workshop: We begin our unit on multiplication this week. Students will be learning different models of multiplication - arrays, repeated addition, and equal jumps on a number line. We will also begin learning our multiplication facts. Monday will be our last addition and subtraction timed tests for a while. Students will be assessed over their knowledge of multiplication facts. Facts will be taught in families. We'll begin with 0's and 1's and build from there.
· Science: We've studied sound and light. Now students will be working in groups to create their own unique instrument. They will meet with their groups to plan on Monday. They will be asked to bring found objects in from home. They are not to go shopping for supplies.
