SCHOOLWIDE NEWS
Mental Health and Wellness for our Students
Through the support of the SDUSD, the Met has partnered with the JED Foundation to assess and refine our processes for supporting the mental health and wellness of our student population. Mental health has been an area of concern at the Met, and as such, we are grateful to our school district for supporting the improvement of our mental health programs through this partnership with JED.
JED has developed an ANONYMOUS survey that we plan to administer to students on March 6. The survey is a study of student mental health and related topics that gathers information about student well-being. You can learn more about this survey’s purpose, find contact information if you have questions, and also view a copy of the survey at this link. As parents, you also have the right to refuse consent by opting your student out of this survey through that same link.
The Met hopes to fulfill our promise and our vision of the Met as a school where every student feels safe, known, and cared for, and where we are proactively supporting every student’s well-being, including mental wellness.
California School Parent Survey (CSPS)
CA School Parent Survey - Please complete by Fri, Mar. 29!
Each year, parents and guardians are asked to participate in the California School Parent Survey, as part of our district’s work toward supporting social-emotional learning and mental health in our school community. Your participation is an important part of how we gather data that can inform our school practices to improve the educational experience of every student. Please click on this link to take the survey. The survey closes on Fri, March 29. Thank you for your support!
CA Healthy Kids Survey - Mon, Mar. 18
Each year, as a companion to the California School Parent Survey, the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is administered to all 9th and 11th grade students. This is an important tool for gathering data about school climate and student well-being. The data is anonymous, and is used to help make decisions about supporting a positive school climate for all students. This year, 9th and 11th graders at the Met are scheduled to take the CHKS on Mon, March 18 in Advisory. Please support our efforts by ensuring that your student arrives at school on time on March 18 for the survey. Thank you!

Parent Notification of Comprehensive Sexual Health Education for 9th Grade
California state law, the California Healthy Youth Act, requires that comprehensive sexual health and HIV prevention education be provided to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, starting in grade 7. In keeping with these requirements and guidelines, the Met will be offering a sexual health education unit to all students who are taking Biology this school year. Please click here for a letter to parents/guardians with relevant information and links.
Please click here for links to pre-recorded curriculum previews. A reminder notification will be sent to all 9th grade parents/guardians two weeks prior to the beginning of the sexual health instruction.
Storm and Flood Resources
With the storms and flooding we have experienced over the past few weeks, the district has provided the following webpage of resources for students, families, and staff who are affected. Please note the new location of the Red Cross shelter at Balboa Park Municipal Gym. In addition, anyone who needs flood-related support can call the San Diego Unified Health and Wellness Hotline at 760-334-7878 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information and resources are also available 24/7 by calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211San Diego online. If you or anyone you know in our Met community is in need of support, please direct them to these resources and reach out to Met staff so we can assist.
