What's New?

The end is drawing ever closer. The students are finishing up projects and enjoying their last days at Greenbriar. On Wednesday, my daughter Avery joined us for lunch to celebrate her 1st birthday! We enjoyed watching Alice in Wonderland and eating our lunches in the classroom. Next week we will have our 3rd trimester class party. We will watch the movie "A Night at the Museum." This movie is rated PG, please let me know if you have any concerns with your child viewing this movie.

Reminder: The Golden Folder Assembly is on Thursday, June 9. The assembly begins at 1:00 pm and there is a video yearbook afterward.

Our final days of the ABC countdown are listed below!

Have a great weekend!

MATH

We finished up our short Algebra unit this week. I was very impressed with how quickly students caught on to the concepts. They worked hard and many were solving the problems even without the help of visuals.

We also learned how to play Yahtzee this week! The students enjoyed a couple rounds and used several math skills in the process. Try playing a game or two this weekend!

Reading

Literature discussion groups continued this week. The students are finding signposts and discussing character development and theme as they read their novels. Our last discussion will be on Tuesday, June 7.

We have also continued our study of Civil Rights with several historical fiction read alouds such as White Socks Only and White Water. We enjoyed listening to White Socks Only through Story Online. Check out the video below.

Writing

The students finished their informational picture books in iBook Author this week! They printed them they are currently being laminated and bound. The students are so excited about their projects and we will spend time next week sharing our books with the rest of the class.

Science

In Science, the students finished their periodic table scavenger hunts. They also enjoyed some fun activities in the lab. Students tested different combinations of liquids to make their own bubble solution. They came up with a class solution that created a giant bubble!
