Creating Safe Schools

for Trans* Students

Transgender or gender non-conforming youth represent a population of students who some are of the most at risk for bullying, homelessness, and suicide. Talking about trans* youth can be one of the more difficult conversations for administrators, counselors, and educators. This special workshop will assist schools in understanding terminology, legal rights of trans* youth, and assist in troubleshooting tough conversations that often times come up (bathrooms, name-changing, curricular inclusion).

Facilitating the workshop will be Sam Killermann, social justice comedian and author of The Social Justice Advocate’s Handbook: A Guide to Gender, and Nate Monson, Executive Director, for Iowa Safe Schools.

Monday, Jan. 25th, 9am-3pm

PLAEA office in Pocahontas, 500 NE 6th St.

Cost is $10 which includes lunch. Administrators, counselors, coaches, board members, and all educators are invited to attend. For more information, contact Linda Linn. Registration link is here!
