Beatniks/Beat Movement
In the late 1950's a movement know as the Beat Movement began in areas centered in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City's Greenwich Village. The followers of this movement are known as Beatniks. The Beatniks all started because they are known to march to the beat of their own drum. Meaning, they didn't want to work or do things they were told so they then formed this movement. Many Americans found this life style to be less enchanting. Nonetheless the beatnik attitudes, way of life, and literature attracted the medias attention and fired the imaginations of many college students.
The Beat Movement started the movement of individuals becoming more independent and doing more of what they want than what they are told by their parents.
