Mini Me Project :)
A project all about me - Heather Marie :)
For starters...
My name is Heather Betzen. I am a sophomore at Wichita State where I am majoring in Elementary Education, then plan on getting my masters in Special Education. I currently work at an elementary school as a para which only emphasizes my passion for becoming a teacher. I am super close with my family. I have two wonderful parents who have been together for 30+ years, a brother and sister, and also the most adorable niece and nephew in this world. I also spend a lot of time with my friends. I have a strong faith and believe that "with God, all things are possible."
GO SHOCKERS!
I was born and raised in Wichita so I have also been raised a die hard Shocker basketball fan. Rip em up, tear em up, LET'S GO SHOX!
Faith
Faith is hands down the most important aspect of my life so I have a matching tattoo of a cross with my sister.
My Family
I have the absolute best family in the whole entire world. I am so incredibly blessed with wonderful parents, siblings, and a beautiful niece and nephew.
"When you judge someone based on a disagnosis, you miss out on their abilities, beauty and uniqueness."
I have a special place in my heart for people with disabilities. My goal is to one day do everything I can to make everyone viewed equal, no matter the disability. Someday I want to be the teacher that not only helps make students successful, but the teacher that inspires every single student to become everything they want to be and to follow their wildest dreams. I want to provide a solid foundation for my students to and to make them feel special each and every single day. I hope to give my students the confidence in themselves to believe that anything is possible.
Personal Learning Styles
The best way that I learn is by teaching myself. I like to have a visual of something when trying to learn something new. If I have an example of a problem, or something written out, I tend to grasp the concept very easily. I love online classes or classes where you are able to work at your own pace. I don't do very well when I have to work at another persons pace. A weakness I have is definitely learning auditory style. I never seeem to be able to grasp a concept when I have to listen to someone tell me what is going on.
I really love baseball. My goal one day is to visit every MLB ballpark.

My Character Defines Me as a Person...
I am an extremely loving person. I have such a huge heart and find such joy in helping others. I believe that God has sent us here for different reasons and I believe that my reason is to help and to inspire others around me. I am almost always smiling. When it comes to working, I am such a hard worker. When I put my mind to something, I am extremely determined to finish or accomplish it. I love watching others succeed and be happy, so I will go to extreme heights in order to see that happiness in others.
A weakness I have is that I am extremely outspoken, where sometimes I don't seem to have a filter of what comes out of my mouth. I tend to speak the truth, even when it's brutally honest or when I should just keep my mouth shut.
For the most part, I feel like I have been very blessed and fortunate for the life that I have been given. My parents have always taught me by their actions that happiness does not just come from what you can do for yourself, but what you can do for others.
Dream Big by Ryan Shupe with lyrics
My favorite song is "Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe. I find this song very motivational and inspiring.
My friend Danny
"Sometimes when you try to teach someone about life, they end up teaching you more than you knew."
My friend Phil
My friend Phil has taught me to ALWAYS smile. "The only disability in life is a bad attitude."
My cousin Kastin
"There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what someone can do, rather than what they cannot."
What Makes Me Unique?
Throughout my life, like all, I have been through an extreme amount of struggle and adversity. I was supposed to play softball at Wichita State before I found out I was sick and had to give up playing. At the time, I looked at it in a negative way. I thought my dreams were crushed. Looking back now, I realized that being sick made me a much better person. My relationship with God has grown incredibly. Without playing, I was able to focus on things that make my heart truly happy. I have changed my attitude on life because now I know and am a true believer that everything happens for a reason.
