Message From Principal Webb
Dear families,
We have 3 weeks left! Can you believe it? What a crazy school year! Many new things in the newsletter this week!
Great news! The Iowa City Community School District is refreshing our student technology with new and updated Chromebooks. Students will keep these devices over the summer and use them next school year. In order for your student to receive a new device, current devices, including chargers and cases, need to be at school.
Onsite students will exchange their devices on June 1st.
OLP students will exchange devices in the following way:
You may stop by the school on June 2nd, 3rd, or 4th between 12 and 1 PM.
If these times do not work, you may contact the library to make other arrangements by calling 319-688-1137 or emailing harvey.sara@iowacityschools.org
Finally, If you are moving or will not be returning to Longfellow next year, please let your child's teacher or office know as we plan for staffing next year. Also, we are still registering next year's kindergarten students if you know of a family.
Most sincerely,
Kelli Webb
PTA Fundraiser
Dear Longfellow Families,
The PTA is having a spring fundraiser with the hopes of a full return to school next year. This event will help support classrooms, specials, and support programs! We also want to help build community by providing a school t-shirt for every student. See attached flyer for details. We hope that families able to contribute will do so!
Donations can be made directly using venmo, PayPal, or credit card at https://givebutter.com/G9sufB. Or you can return the flyer to school with cash or a check made out to Longfellow Elementary PTA.
Many thanks for your support!
Best,
Longfellow PTA
--6th grade students:
Little Food Pantry at Longfellow!
The Student Council this year decided they wanted to build a Little Free Food Pantry. With the help of an awesome Uncle who built the structure, the Physical Plant who painted the base coat and then secured it by the Little Free Library out front, Buffy for amazing design ideas and time spent painting, and the Student Council members who helped paint the structure, we have a working, BEAUTIFUL Little Free Pantry in front of the school.
We will ask the community and staff to add shelf-stable food to the pantry as often as they can. It is open and eligible for all humans who would like to/need to take food from it. Students will have some time after school to visit the pantry if they want to take things home. They should only be taking food after school so it isn't a distraction all day long. I will be adding information about The Community Food Pantry available in town and other resources families can look into.
Help Return our Books!

Longfellow Elementary stands with all people of color in the fight against racial injustice and inequality. We all deserve to be safe and secure. Longfellow Elementary, as part of the Iowa City Community School District, will not tolerate racism, hate, and other discriminatory acts. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said that, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We will work hard to not let today’s injustice stop us from creating a better tomorrow for our school community. Please know that even though it is summer, you can reach out anytime.
Below you will also find links to resources that are available for our staff and our community. Stay safe and take care. #ICCSDtogether
