Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of May 19th through 25th, 2022
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
As many are aware, we reluctantly had to cancel last weekend’s performances of our musical Sweeney Todd due to cast illness. Fortunately, we are rescheduling two performances for May 27th and 28th. We hope you can join us for these make-up performances.
This brings attention to our current situation. We’re seeing a rise in COVID cases with both students and staff. While there’s no discussion at this point of returning to mask mandates, we do encourage everyone to take precautions. If a student is sick, please stay home. It’s easy to do a homework request, and our staff is here to help.
Looking at the week ahead, we’re rapidly heading towards graduation and the end of the year. Tomorrow night, we hold our Spring Band Concert at 7pm. Next Tuesday and Wednesday will be our Spring Choir Concerts as well.
Congratulations to Jake Rodgers who finished tied for 4th in state at the OSAA tournament!
Both baseball and softball are headed towards the playoffs on Monday. We will likely be hosting both games at Canby High School on our new turf infields. Good luck Cougars!
And… good luck to our track and field students as they head to the state championships Friday and Saturday.
Also, W. Scott Anderson will be performing a fundraiser for our trap team in the FAC this Saturday at 2pm and 7pm. He has been featured on many shows such as America’s Got Talent. See this link to see a lot of the great things to see this weekend!
Finally, CSD is offering Summer school to interested students. It will be an in-person program, scheduled for June 21st through July 15th. Attendance will be required. Please see the attached flyers and go to this link to register.
Have a good week. And Go Cougars!

Senior Award Program Information
Any senior receiving a scholarship to a college or university should provide a copy of their award letter to Lori Wujek (lori.wujek@canby.k12.or.us) in the Counseling office not later than 5/20/22!
(Please note) Changes to College in Canby requirements for Class of 2022:
After careful consideration we are modifying the requirements for the College in Canby award. Now if a CHS student earns (or will earn) 30 or more college credits including 3rd trimester, senior year, the senior is eligible to wear the "College in Canby" medal at graduation. We have three levels of medals: bronze, silver and gold. Seniors must attach their unofficial transcripts from community colleges and/or 4-year colleges to the form in the counseling office. Students enrolled in dual credit classes 3rd trimester can attach their class schedule. Students who pass an AP test can attach their scores. Turn in (email/scan, drop off or mail) these documents to Lori Wujek (lori.wujek@canby.k12.or.us) in Counseling by 5/20/22.

Graduation All-Night Party (GAP)
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2022 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 3rd. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's your students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of days before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.
Athletics
Please check the athletics website at CanbyAthletics.com for the most up to date information. Often cancellations happen with little notice, but we will do our best to communicate it out as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Attendance and Sick Students
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
To report an absence, call our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Please report an absence as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after the absence.
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment, inform the attendance office as soon as possible. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
