New York State Summer Reading Program 2015

As always, NYSED's Department of Library Development (DLD) has a wealth of information for you - information and resources, downloadable materials (in several languages), reading lists, bookmarks, promotional materials, and more. This year's theme is "Every Hero Has a Story." You may not see your students over the summer, but you can get them excited about summer reading!

And Speaking of Summer Reading ...

This year's Teen Video Challenge to encourage people to be part of the NY State Summer Reading program used the theme "Unmask Your Imagination." Winning videos from New York state can be seen here; all other winning videos from across the country can be viewed here. Why not share with your young adult readers, and encourage them to do something similar? Either for reading groups in your school, or to enter the statewide competition next year!

TeenReaderCon 2015

We are gearing up for TeenReaderCon 2015 to be held on Saturday October 17 at U Albany, Downtown Campus. We're in the final phases of getting authors, and hope to announce shortly who will be there. Detailed information will be coming out as soon as we have people lined up!

Alicia Abdul - Albany High School Librarian

Earlier this week, Alicia was featured in the Times-Union Books Blog. Alicia was the Chair of the Authors committee for our first TeenReaderCon and is a "mover and shaker" in our region. She will be presenting at our June 8th Liaisons meeting and will be talking "all things books" - including author visits, forming (and leading) book groups, connecting with the community, moderating teacher book discussions ... and money. More details coming!
