2018-2019 School Year: Volume 34: Week of May 20, 2019
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Parent Engagement and Parent Involvement
Last week was our Learning Fair. We had almost 200 family members come and celebrate your child's learning. That is amazing and that is one of the best ways to be engaged.....take an interest in your child's learning. Though we need this to happen most days, not just Learning Fair days. We hope with the introduction of data folders next year, you will take even more of an active interest and participation in your child's learning. The 4th and 5th grade reproductive health meeting on Wednesday and the Literacy Night Event on Tuesday, May 28th are another way. We need you parents!! The teachers can't do it alone!!
Parent Involvement is when you come and help out at school. That is important too. We need involved parents to help us run our sports programs, our afterschool events, book fairs, FOG, popcorn days, FIELD day, just to name a few.
In the end, Grandview needs both. We need all Grandview parents to be engaged in their child's learning. We also need involved Grandview parents to help us to continue to keep the rich traditions and strong Grandview culture alive. So commit to this. Take an active role in both of these. When you do, you will see learning improve for our students!!!
Let's make it another great week at Grandview!!!
Your Proud Principal,
Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

Each camp is grade-specific and enables students to experience culinary arts, engineering, health sciences, information technology, robotics and visual imaging. Safety First
- During the school day, no one can enter the building through any door, but the front door.
- Everyone needs to sign in and get a sticker if you wish to walk towards the classrooms during the school day. Staff indicated that they are unsure if the adults in the building have signed in and look to see the visitor stickers. I know that we are familiar faces to the office, but not all of the staff knows all of the faces, so please take the extra steps to sign-in.
- If you have a GSRP or Pre-school student, after dropping your little one off, please do not walk through the hallways. If you wish to get your other child to class, please walk around to the front and sign in. It seems like a silly extra step, but arrival and dismissal is very hectic and all adults should be identified.

Pink Out Store
Team Gibson/Terpack still have the Pink Out Store opened. Suckers and other items will be sold to raise money for Karmanos Cancer Center. The store will be set up in the main hallway by the office and will be student run.
Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Kroger and Grandview
We received over $130 from Kroger from our last reporting. Thank you to all of you who have added Grandview to your account. We have 36 households that have signed up, but I know we can have more.
Though know that it is never too late to sign-up and join!!! So shop away, Grandview is benefitting from your grocery shopping!
Simply encourage your participants to visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into their Kroger account they can search for Friends of Grandview either by name or TH003 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
*Customers must have a registered Kroger rewards card account to link to your organization.
*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please let them know they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger
REMEMBER, purchases will not count for your organization until after your participants register their rewards card.
Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.
Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
