Bridgewater Friday Update

Bear Pride: Respect, Responsibility, Be Safe, Do Your Best

August 20, 2021

Hoop Dreams!!

Our new basketball hoops were installed this week on the playground!! This is very exciting since this is a direct result of the funds raised by families last spring through Booster! The hoops are adjustable and sturdy. We really needed an upgrade from the ones that were installed back in 1998; they were leaning a lot. Thank you to all of the families along with BBC who made this happen!!!

Teacher Placement

Teacher placement information was sent on Wednesday, Sept. 18th. Please call the Bridgewater Office if you have not received this information; this would mean that there is a problem that we need to correct.

Free Breakfast and Lunch & Forms

All students are able to have free breakfast and lunch at schools in MN this year. Students riding the bus are still able to have breakfast upon arriving at school. Snack cart will not be available due to the availability of breakfast.

We still need potentially eligible families to complete and submit the Educational Benefits form. Federal and state funding is based on these results. In addition, families who qualify may receive discounts on Community Education programming along with discounts for extra-curricular opportunities. The forms and instructions are attached below.

Updates at Bridgewater

Over the summer, many things have been done in terms of cleaning the building and fixing the little things that make a big difference. Here are a couple that will be of interest to students, families and staff. We were able to install dehumidification (air-conditioning) in the gym this past month!! This will make our gym much more comfortable, especially for the students and events such as graduation. We also have new water fountains in the gym with water bottle fillers! We are looking to install one in each wing as well. The buildings and grounds crew are busy today putting in fresh wood chips under the playground equipment. This will make the landing softer in case someone should fall. I am excited for the students to see the changes!

Communication

Communication is very important to me, and I want to make sure that you are informed about the events that happen at Bridgewater. I will email a newsletter every Friday. You are always welcome to email me if you have questions, concerns or suggestions. Bridgewater is your school and I want you to be a part of your child's education.

IPad Protection Plan

Please don't forget to sign up and pay for the IPad Protection Plan. Accidents happen, and it is best to be prepared before the screen cracks. Here is the link to sign up for this: https://northfieldschools.revtrak.net/bridgewater/Bridgewater-School-Fees/#/f/iPad-Protection-Plan-2021-22

Family Conferences-Students & Parents

Family Conferences will take place on September 7th & 8th. We have sent a SignUp Genius link for you to sign up for the date and time that works for you. You will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher, complete paperwork electronically, and discuss the coming school year. You know your child best, and we want to learn from you how to best meet the needs of your child. We also need to know how best to communicate with you in case we need to reach you. Yes, your child is wanted/needed at this conference. Please note that new students will be issued an iPad, and parents don't have to worry about buying one. Thank you for making this time a priority!

Questions

Many of you have questions about the coming year, especially new families. Please know that you are welcome to call Bridgewater between 7:30-3:30 Monday-Friday. You are also welcome to email your questions as well. We are here to serve you, and you are not interrupting us; you are our job, and we enjoy talking with you. Bridgewater is your school, and you are always welcome!! You are also free to visit the school if you would like. Call if you would like a tour.

First Day of School

Thursday, September 9th is the first day of school for students. Please mark this on your calendar. We are excited to have the students return!!

Masks

Wearing masks will be an expectation this fall, as was stated in the email from Dr. Hillmann. I am hoping that this will not be the case for the entire year, and yet we want to keep everyone safe. There is not a vaccine for elementary students yet, so we need to be vigilant. We will monitor this closely, and let you know when things change to the point that we can be mask-free.

Medical Information

Please make sure to share medical needs for your child with either Nurse Melody Leidall or Nurse Lucy Archibald. Any and all medications need to go through them as well. Please do not send medications on the bus with students. Thank you!

Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Kids Day will happen at the Y this year on Saturday, August 28 from 9am-noon. The 2021 theme is Recipe for a Healthy Kid.

In a year filled with challenges for all of us, we are excited to gather with families of preschool and elementary school-age kids for a morning of fun activities that celebrate kids being kids including a bounce house! Healthy Kids Day at the Y will feature our gym, pool, and wellness floor--as well as our indoor and outdoor spaces and a variety of activities, booths, sponsors and displays.

There will be free giveaways, and it will be fun to have families at the Y this year--both inside and outside of the building. See the flyer below for more details.
