3S Sensations

Week of 3.9.15

A Note From Ms. Salazar...

I hope this note finds you well! It was a long and crazy week, with schedule changes, and the PARCC testing. I think we are all happy to have it behind us. Taking these tests for the first time can be overwhelming and stressful for the students. I appreciate your support and help in keeping the vibe low key. The kiddos did very well with the schedule changes and LOVED their extra recess. I'm excited to get back to our regular schedule this week!

Group pictures will be taken tomorrow, 3/16. If your child would like to order a photograph but has not returned the form, please let me know and I will get you a form ASAP.

Fractions Greater Than One

We wrapped up our unit on fractions by exploring fractions that are greater than ONE whole. The idea of a fraction greater than one is not difficult for students to imagine. They are very familiar with ONE and A HALF cookies or two and a half pizza pies. The more difficult task to express these quantities as improper fractions and mixed numbers. Students manipulated halves and fourths to help illustrate this idea. They did a great job with this new and sometimes confusing concept!

Urban, Suburban, or Rural?

3S continued their exploration into different types of Communities. Students created a poster highlighting the differences between the communities. This week we will move on to different aspects of communities, but we will revisit the difference between Urban, Rural, and Suburban communities as each Flat Friend returns!

I am hoping to send out our completed letters by Wednesday. Thank you for providing the stamped envelope and address for your child. The kids absolutely love this activity and we look forward to hearing from our family and friends soon!
