The Buzz at Westbrook
November 1, 2019
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Although it was a snowy day on Halloween, we had a blast at Westbrook! Thanks to all of the families who volunteered their time to help with 1st grade pumpkin math and who volunteered at our Halloween parties. It was another memorable day for our students! Thanks to all who were able to cheer us on at our shortened parade! If you weren’t able to make it, please check out our Instagram and Twitter accounts for Halloween pictures!
Fall Conferences
Our online conference sign up window closed this morning, but it’s not too late to schedule a parent-teacher conference with your child’s teacher. Please email your child’s teacher directly as soon as possible to determine a conference time.
PTO Events
We look forward to seeing many of you at the first PTO-sponsored family night of the year! On Friday, November 15th at 6:30pm, we will have our first Family Connection Event hosted by our PTO. We will have someone coming in to share about different types of animals.
During this time, families are also encouraged to stop by our Book Fair!
Arrival
Parents and caregivers, thank you for your attentiveness to ensuring that your student arrives on time each morning and afternoon. Doors open at 9:10am for our morning sections of kindergarten and preschool, as well as for students who attend all day. Doors open at 1:10pm for our afternoon sections of kindergarten and preschool. School starts promptly at 9:20am and 1:20pm, respectively. Arriving on team each day helps to ensure that students do not miss any important information. Arriving on time also helps students maintain a consistent schedule which they thrive on.

A Note from the Nurse...
Keep Flu out of School
Vaccines are among the safest and most cost-effective ways to prevent disease. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for the body to develop an immune response to fight the flu. Protecting children from the flu will help keep them healthy and in school. Contact your child’s health provider about receiving the flu vaccine. (Per NASN article) Informative link from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases: https://www.nfid.org/infectious-diseases/influenza-flu/
How can I tell if my child has influenza?
Influenza typically comes on very suddenly. The symptoms usually include high fever, aches, chills, headache, cough, and extreme tiredness. Children, especially infants and toddlers, may have additional symptoms that adults usually don’t experience, including ear aches, nausea, and vomiting. (National Foundation for Infectious Diseases)
