Gladiator Greatness!

19 CCHS freshman students participated in the first cohort of Georgia Possible, a leadership development program run by UGA. Read more in The Red & Black.
Congratulations to our boys and girls track teams who both placed 4th at the Region 8 5A Track and Field Championships. Stand-outs include Female Region Champions Zaili Gantt (triple jump) Treasa McHugh (high jump), and Lashanti Williams (long jump and 100M) as well as Boys Region Champion Justin Hodges (long jump).
The boys and girls soccer teams celebrated Senior Night on April 18th. See pictures in the Athens Banner-Herald.
The boys and girls tennis teams both made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the state playoffs. Way to go Glads!
Annabelle Sargent, Clare Wislar, Marilen Rodriguez, Irina Williamson, Amari Manago, Amy Kamagate, Zuri Flores, Tavaria Smith, and Kenya Gresham were awarded the Athens Step Up Scholarship.
The girls soccer team wrapped up their season after setting a number of school records. The records set were most wins (11), most goals against (19), greatest goal differential (+37), and most shutouts (9). See pictures of their win over Cedar Shoals in Online Athens' photo gallery here.
The CCHS baseball team returned to the playoffs this year after 17 years of falling short. Read about the team's journey in the Athens Banner-Herald.
Freshman Zaili Gantt and senior Keelan Bell (pictured right with Ms. Mooney and his mother) were named Positive Athlete Regional Award Winners for the Atlanta East Region. Read more on Positive Athlete's website.
Five Clarke Central students were selected to attend this summer's prestigious Governor's Honors Program. Congratulations to Alexander Robinson (social studies), Katie Grace Upchurch (science), Melody Morgan (music), Shea Peters (communicative arts), and Casey Pendley (dance). Seniors Charles Dawe and Isaac Schmidt were named STAR Students and, along with their STAR Teachers Claude Gonzalez and Ginger Lehmann, were recognized by the Athens Rotary Club during a ceremonial luncheon. Read more and see pictures on Online Athens.
The Odyssey Media Group took home numerous individual and group awards from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association Spring Workshop and Awards banquet held at the University of Georgia’s Georgia Center on April 9th. Read more on their website.

Juniors Alex Robinson, Katie Grace Upchurch, Everett Vereen, and Elena Gilbertson-Hall have been active participants in the formation of the ACC Mayor's Youth Commission. Read more in the Odyssey News Magazine and The Red & Black.

Congratulations to our many seniors who are being awarded scholarships, including JoJo Croffie who won The Athens Kiwanis Club Ted Riegel Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, Me'Shai Coleman who received The Micah Hurst Memorial Never Give Up Scholarship, Andrew Caldwell and Flora Lechtreck who both received The Gregg W. Lewis Memorial Scholarship, Jacob Dula who won The National Football Foundation Play It Smart Scholarship, and Tavaria Smith who received the Horatio Alger State Scholarship.
