OVHS 10th Grade Course Selection
Class of 2024
Lets Start Planning For Your Sophomore Year!
Please take a minute to review important information regarding course selection for next school year. A Course Selection Presentation will be shown during students Advisory class on Wednesday March 3rd, and on March 4th and 5th High School Counselors will be joining 9th grade English classes to answer any questions and help the students select their PE and Elective choices in the Aeries Academic Planner. The window to select your classes in the Aeries Planner closes on March 12th so please make sure you select them before that date or you will not be able to. Below you will find additional information on questions you may have in regards to course descriptions, 4 year plans, high school graduation requirements, and "A-G" requirements( what classes you need to complete to be eligible to apply to a 4 Year College). We encourage students to look over this information prior to our visit so they have an idea of what they might want to select for their PE and Elective choices, and hopefully this might answer some questions that you have. We look forward to working with you and helping you plan out your classes for your Sophomore year at OVHS.

AP or Advanced Placement Classes
1) The class is weighted. When you calculate a high school GPA (grade point average) a number value is given for each class. In a regular High School class (A=4pts, B=3pts, C=2pts, D=1pt, F=0pt), for an AP class (A=5pts, B=4pts, C=3pts). Sometimes you will hear of students graduating with a 4.2 or higher GPA and that is because they took AP classes and did very well (earned an A) which gave them a bump in their GPA.
2) At the end of each AP class students are given the opportunity to take an AP exam. Depending on how well they do they could start earning college credits in high school. All classes cost money in college so this could potentially save students money as well as time in college.
