Happy New Year and Welcome Back

Welcome back. I hope everyone had a nice break. Monday came and our staff had lots of New Years activities to get things going. We had fun celebrating. I may have used some confetti blasters out front and back.

The next couple of weeks will bring mid-year assessments and some intense work for our students. Please work on keeping your children on a schedule so they are getting plenty of sleep and still have time to do 20 minutes of reading each night. Make sure you check in your child's backpack each night and contact the teachers with any concerns.

It is great to be back!

Did You Know....???

Each week I am going to try to put something fun or interesting about our school, our staff, or our students in this Did You Know....???? section.

This week, many of our staff began the year with the One Word Challenge - Each staff member picked one word that they want to use to represent all of their efforts throughout the year. Mr. Billy's word is RELENTLESS! More on this later.

The One Word Challenge

Each New Year many people start off with resolutions that they don't often keep. This year, I decided to follow John Gordon's way of doing it. Mr. Gordon along with others wrote a book called, One Word: that will change your life. Many of the teachers and students participated in the One Word Challenge. Here is a blog I wrote about my challenge: http://principalbilly.blogspot.com/2016/01/one-word-relentless.html

Below you will see some of the teachers' "One Word" that will represent them this year.

Missing something? Check out the Lost and Found!

Each day I walk by the Lost and Found, which is directly across from the library and I wonder, "How could someone not know that they are missing a winter jacket?" Do you wonder that too? If you are missing clothing, including gloves, hats, sweatshirts, gloves, etc. make sure that you check out the Lost and Found.

One way to avoid having things fall into the abyss is to make sure you write your child's name on clothing items. If there is a name on it, we'll be sure to get it back to them. Put it on the inside tag or collar. Anywhere we can find it will be helpful.

Questions to ask your child when they come home from school

When you ask your child,"How was your day?", do they give an answer like, "Fine." Here is a great article for parents to help you ask different questions that may spark conversations.
