Take Two
Nearly ten years have passed since the 2007 MLA publication on foreign languages and their role in the academy. My original article offers a critique of the lack of attention to the place of online courses in this report, as well as to distance education in general. In short, the article emphasizes capacity for successful completion of student learning outcomes via the intentional use of the following tools:
- the virtual classroom via a study of Wimba
- the new level of realia in the virtual setting
- asynchronous discussion boards as a community builder
Going beyond the basic use of IT in the classroom made up the core of this article, by illustrating how instructional technology should be at the forefront of the conversation, not at the rear, seen as an ‘extra,’ or critiqued as an ‘innovation’ in the classroom.

Call for Manuscripts--JoLLE Spring 2017 Themed Issue
This will be a special themed issue focusing on the JoLLE Winter 2017 conference 's theme: “Out of the Box and Into the Margins.” This issue will feature manuscripts about language and literacy students, educators, and researchers who take risks, sometimes subversively, to employ and widen the spaces between the essentializing forces that we all face. We invite manuscripts that experiment with the intertwining of identities and those that explore how to exert agency within highly constrained contexts.
To be considered for the Spring 2017 themed issue, manuscripts must be received by midnight (EST) on Tuesday, February 28th.
For manuscript submission guidelines, please click here.
