Principal's Notes and Highlights
Happy Friday!
I knew it was going to be a great day when Nick came to school with a CSA 50th Anniversary Celebration themed haircut! I could not have asked for things to go any more smoothly than they did and I appreciate everyone who helped make yesterday a success. I have received countless positive texts, emails and messages about the event. We feel like we succeeded in creating an event that was worthy of our school, students, families and community.
There are a few extra programs left from the event. They are available at the front desk. Be sure to get your piece of history while they last! I was also asked by a few to include my Welcome Remarks from yesterday. Pictures from the event will be shared early next week. A special thank you to Mr. Kohne who worked as our event photographer and is working over the weekend to get them cleaned up for us. Video from the event can be found on the Celebrate Columbus Facebook page. Over 5,100 views already!
- Your students raise over $11,000! Yes, you read that correctly. We budget for $6,000 to cover field trips, buses, and other student activities. We had a goal of raising an additional $2,000 for the school playground. The students were thrilled to hear they raised over $5,000 for the school playground at Town Hall Meetings this morning! Because we more than doubled our goal, we decided to double the original incentives we put in place. So we will have ten students be "Principal for a Day" and the top two classes will now get pizza parties for lunch (listed below). In addition, going home today will be a CSA Lincoln window decal for all students! Changing the format of the school fundraiser to class goals from individual prizes (water balloons/buckets) came from a parent suggestion last year. We value your input and this is a great example of how we got better because we listened to you. Thank you!
From the PTO-Parent-Teacher Conference Week is coming quick (Sept. 25-29), which means that our teachers will be putting in some long days! Sign up where you can to give them an afternoon pick-me-up and keep them going during these extra hours. Please drop off your donation by 3:00 on your chosen date and mark any containers you would like returned with your name. Thanks for helping support our teachers!

- Walk to School Day will be Friday, September 29th. We will meet at the Mill Race Parking lot and will depart from there at 7:30 a.m. I will be there by 7:00 a.m. for those needing to drop students off early. Here is a map for drop-off. We usually take a group photo on the front steps of the library, but we will definitely use the Exhibit Columbus installation by the library this year! Please join us for this fun event. It is a point of pride for our school to have a large group attend!
Be sure to read the section below titled "Future Architects at CSA Lincoln Elementary" to understand the full significance of the background photo.
Good luck to all those running or walking tomorrow. Calvin will be participating in the Fun Run tonight. I hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend!

Future Architects at CSA Lincoln Elementary!
A couple of weeks ago, Amanda Sharpe helped us recreate a very famous photo that was taken at Lincoln Elementary in 1967. Each grade is represented in the 2017 photo. We included both photographs on our classroom doors for the event yesterday with the tag line "Future Architects are busy learning!".
