Updated Information From the Jefferson County Schools Child Nutrition Department

This year, school districts nationwide are returning to the free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch program.

For the past two years, all students have been able to eat free school breakfasts and lunches because of federal funding. However, in the fall, as the federal waiver expires, only students who apply for the program and are approved will be able to eat meals at a free or reduced price.

Like in years past, approval for the program is based on your family’s income. We encourage you to still apply if you’re unsure of your eligibility. Remember, there is absolutely no harm in filling out an application to see if you qualify! The link at which you may apply is below.

Interested in Substitute Teaching In Jefferson County? Read This!

Kelly Educational Staffing (KES®) is dedicated to helping school districts save money and operate at peak capacity by fulfilling all staffing needs. As a complete education staffing solution, we manage substitute teachers and Exceptional Ed paraprofessionals for Jefferson County Schools. Launched in 1997, KES partners with 7,000+ public and private schools across 35 states and have 100% success in improving substitute placement rates in all our partner districts. More than 2.2 million classrooms are filled by a KES substitute teacher each year.

The Jefferson County Board of Education has approved new pay rates for several categories of substitutes. The changes were voted on during Thursday’s meeting and will take effect immediately.

Substitute teachers with a high school diploma will move from $80.00 to $100.00 a day, and substitute teachers with a teaching certificate will move from $90.00 to $110.00 a day.

In addition, long-term substitute teachers with a high school diploma will see their daily rate jump from $95.00 to $105.00. A substitute exceptional education teacher will be paid a daily rate of $110.00, increasing from $90.00.

“We realize the need for subs now more than ever. This is a tremendous opportunity to recruit individuals who want a chance to work a flexible schedule but also make a difference in a student’s life,” said Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent.

Like many districts, Jefferson County Schools currently contracts with Kelly Services to provide substitutes in various departments.

Back-to-School Registration Reminder

This is a reminder that ONSITE summer registration for all currently enrolled students will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, from 8:30-4:30 (see the schedule below). Make-up registration will be held the following week each day from 8:00 until 11:00.

Registration will be in the main building at CMS. When families arrive at registration, you may be required to clear up fees for lost or missing devices, library book, and/or class fees for 2021-2022. If you are unsure if you have any of these charges to clear up prior to registering, please contact the school office. If you plan to pay with a check, you will need one check for this station and a separate check for the fee station. This year we will have stations for online payment with a debit or credit card.

The stations that follow include stations where class donations and fees are collected, books and lockers are distributed, and items such as planners and memberships can be acquired. The schedule (which we rotate annually to be fair when issuing lockers) is as follows:

  • Persons whose last names begin with N-O-P 8:30 A.M. – 9:30 A.M.
  • Persons whose last names begin with Q-R-S 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.

The letter that was sent out on June 1, 2022 is attached below. Please remember you MUST complete the online registration before you can proceed through the onsite registrations. Thank you for your assistance in this. We look forward to seeing you on August 1st.

Online Registration Reminder for All CMS Students and Families (UPDATE)

CMS Families,

This is a reminder that families of ALL students in grades 5-8 MUST COMPLETE the online registration process in Power School prior to the start of the 2022-2023 school year. As of today, about HALF of our students registration has been started and pushed over for update in our system this week. The portal looks like this:

  • 6 new students completed online enrollment
  • 266 returning students submitted
  • 120 returning students pending approval
  • 24 returning students started
  • 143 returning students not started and unsubmitted

Please remember that SNAP codes will no longer be necessary or required to register. All registration will be done online through the Power School Parent Portal.

The set up information for your student's online registration information can be found at the bottom of his/her end-of-year report card. At Corner Middle School, we sent those to you by email and through the mail by the U.S. Postal Service. If for some reason you are unable to locate that information, please call the school at 205-379-3230 so that we may assist you.

Some simple instructions are below:

Creating a parent portal account

If you are 100% positive you do not have a parent portal account, now is the time to create one! If you already have an account, please do not create a new one as this could cause delays in the registration process.

1.Click Here To Navigate to JEFCOED’s Power School Page

2.Click “Create Account” and follow the instructions.

What if I have a new student?

If your student is new to JEFCOED, please complete the new student registration process currently found on JEFCOED.com.

UPDATE: Families, if you have completed the online registration process for the new school year but have not uploaded the documents required by the district, you should email them to our school registrar, Lindy Hallmark, at lhallmark@jefcoed.com or drop them by the school for us to copy, approve, and put on file. Thank you for your assistance in the submission of this required documentation.
