A Friendly Reminder Regarding School Cancellations & Delays
12/11/16 Email from Dr. Flanagan:
I would like to take this opportunity to explain the process that we will use this winter to make decisions about school cancellations and delays, as well as outline our communication plan.
When there is a chance of snow or ice impacting the commute, I will contact George Trearchis our Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at 4:45 a.m., who will communicate directly with the highway department and police department to assess travel conditions. A decision will then be made by 5:30 a.m. at the latest, as to whether or not a school cancellation or delay is necessary. In some instances, the forecast allows us to make a decision the evening before, at which point we will communicate the decision immediately.
The first source of communication will be via this email chain, which also links to my twitter account @DrMFlanagan. After sending an email, I will then contact the local major television networks to inform them of the decision so that it appears on the school cancellation scroll. I have also asked building principals to utilize their school social media platforms to communicate the message as well.
I recognize that there are varying opinions of when a school district should cancel or delay. Please know that we make our decision based on the most current road conditions as well as the length, timing and projection of the individual storm.
Thank you,
Dr. Michael Flanagan
Just a reminder with a 2 hour delay, drop-off is between 10:40 - 10:50. School begins at 10:50. Extended day preschool and full-day kindergarten will have a 2 hour delay as well. There is no school for 1/2 day preschool or kindergarten. Should you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to call the main office.
