Math STAAR Spring 2015

We recently received Math STAAR results for last year for students in grades 3-8. If you will recall last year you were able to see how many your child answered correct but the passing standard was not established yet. It has now been established and we have mailed home score and explanation pages.

Our campus staff has evaluated the needs of individual students and plans to provide support to students who would have struggled. Likewise we know what area learners need to be challenged to grow in. Our goal is an outstanding education for EVERY learner.

iFLY STEM Programs

Three of our adventurous facilitators, Mr. Cardenas, Mrs. Phillips and Mr. Wester attended an outstanding training hosted by iFLY. The program is written by former teachers and covers physics concepts such as terminal velocity. They have programs that cater to Kindergarten all the way up to AP Physics classes.

Destination Imagination Info Meeting

Don't forget to attend this informational event Monday night, 6pm at Zellars Center for Learning and Leadership. Read more at this link!

Our campus contact is Mrs. Kris Majority.

Monitoring grades online for grades 3-8

For students in grades 3-8 you can monitor their class performance via the parent side of FOCUS. If you have not established and account please do so. Students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to log in and monitor if they have missing assignments, need to visit with a teacher about an assignment, etc.

The link to focus can be found under parent tab. For assistance contact our registrar, Mrs. Heselton.

6 week progress reports are coming home Tuesday, Oct. 6th for your review.

Early Release K-5/Parent conferences - Friday, Oct. 9th

Kinder through 5th grade students will dismiss early Friday the 9th @ 12:05 pm. Students will visit the cafe for lunch on this day. Student enrolled in Alphabest will have care beginning at 12:05 pm.

This half day is reserved for parent teacher conferences. Please be sure you have established your time for a conference with your child's teacher. Our goal is great dialogue about your learner with 100% of our families.

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders will dismiss at 3:20.

Digital Safety

Technology is a one powerful tool we use for learning. This week we encourage you to talk to your learners about digital safety. Mrs. McClurg recently presented at PTA a great presentation about good digital practices. See the link to her presentation.

Chromebooks at Home

Please remember that while online content is filtered on the LEISD network, our filters cannot control Chromebook browsing outside of our district network. The most important way to protect your children is through active monitoring. When young children start using mobile devices, gaming systems, tablets, or computers, they should be supervised closely by a parent or caregiver. If not supervised online, children may stumble onto inappropriate content. Consider only allowing computer use in public areas of the home, such as the kitchen and/or living area. There are also filters available that will limit access to certain sites, words, or images. We encourage parents to explore these options and install software or hardware to protect their children on their home networks. However, please remember no filter is 100% safe so active monitoring is critical.

Prestwick's 1st Color Run

All learners at Prestwick will participate in an energizing PTA fundraising event that promotes health. Students have the chance to gain sponsorship for our official Color Run on Oct. 30th. We appreciate your support in advance. 100% of funds earned will go towards the construction of an outdoor learning space and garden.

You can learn more about this event via our newsletter each week.

Both volunteers and sponsors for this event are needed!!
