Creating strong home school connections for student success!

Happy November!

Happy November ! As we welcome cooler weather, November also brings a month of Thanks! Even though Thanksgiving is weeks away, I think even in this time of uncertainty and change, we focus on what we can be thankful for. I am of course thankful for my family, both my home and school family! I am grateful that during all of this, we have supported each other. Let's continue to stay strong, focus on remaining healthy, and remember all that we have to be thankful for.

I'm excited and thankful to say that thing are going well as we've transitioned some of our students back to in person learning. While we've definitely had some bumps along the way, our students are doing a great job of staying focused both virtually and in-person. We've had two situations where we have had to quarantine classes for presumed COVID positive, but I am grateful that we have not had any confirmed positive cases on our campus from staff or students. Please see below for updates in a few areas and continue to focus on health and safety.

Thanks Dads Club!

Special shout out to our Lovett Dad's Club! They have made sure that the outdoor area in the courtyard is well manicured, organized the big rocks around the play ground and weeded a real eye sore in the back of the building. We also now have our walk way to the big playground filled with crushed granite making it safer for our students as they walk to the play ground area. Huge shout out to YPlandscaping for doing an a amazing job to support our Lovett Owls! Way to go dads!!

Grading Policy Updates

As shared in a previous newsletter, we have been working on updates to our grading policy. The purpose of the updates is to better protect the cycle of feedback that grades allows and to bring clarity to redoing work and when work is considered late. You should have already received the update from your child's teacher, however I am including it here so that everyone is aware of the expectations moving forward. For questions about grading, consult your child's teacher.

Fine Arts Grades

With the finalization of the first report card, we learned that there is a problem in Power School that impacts the Fine Arts Grade. The system is automatically converting our letter grades of E,S, etc. to percentage grades. While percentage grading is used in middle and high school for fine arts, we use letter grades at the elementary level and the system is having trouble with distinguishing this. We are working with the district to try and resolve this issue so we can correct for the first six weeks, but also have correct reporting moving forward. I know that many of you have emailed teachers about this issue, however this is something currently out of our control to adjust. As soon as we receive a solve for the issue, we will update you.
