ALTA VISTA STEAM NIGHT - TUESDAY
Alta Vista's annual STEAM Night will be on February 4th. Join us for an evening filled with hands-on STEAM activities for students, parents, and the community to explore as we reach for the stars! There will be Virtual Reality adventures, Code & Go rockets, and more. The fun and learning begins at 6:00. Be sure to start your evening at the cafeteria where you can pick up a guide to the many different activities spread throughout the campus. Come and join the fun!
NEWS AND INFORMATION @ ALTA VISTA
MILAGE CLUB
Mileage Club has been a hit this year and we would love to have more students join in. Our volunteers are on the field on Mondays and Fridays, so encourage your children to find a friend to walk or run with at lunch.
LOST AND FOUND
The Lost and Found has grown rapidly in the last few weeks. Please encourage your child to check the shelves outside the cafeteria on Thursday or Friday. All remaining items will be donated to charity after school on Friday, January 31st.
DROP OFF TABLE
Similar to many of the other schools in Union School District, we have added a "Drop Off Table" outside the office. This provides a central location for students to check for lunches, projects, and more, while also reducing the classroom disruption. Thanks for your cooperation.
FUTURE CHEFS COMPETITION
USD's Future Chefs event is on March 11, 2020 and open to all elementary students. More information about this fun event can be found in the flyer at the bottom of the newsletter. Details can also be found at https://unionsd.sodexomyway.com/landing/elem. All entries must be submitted by Friday, January 31, 2020.
HOME & SCHOOL CLUB NEWS
The Alta Vista Elementary Home and School Club (AVHSC) will be hosting an online Spring Auction from March 24-26! We’re asking our community to support our school with donation items for the auction.
We welcome and appreciate all auction items, such as sporting events tickets, vacation homes, gift cards and certificates, merchandise, travel packages, food and beverages, personal services, classes, hosted parties, and the like.
More information about donations and the auction can be found on the attached flyer.
AUTHOR VISIT
Alta Vista Home & School Club and Hicklebee’s Books is thrilled to announce that on Thursday, February 6th, author Annie Barrows will speak to the students at Alta Vista in grades 3-5.
Annie Barrows has written the award-winning series, Ivy + Bean; the award-winning book, Magic Half; and its sequel, Magic in the Mix; a picture book called What John Marco Saw; and The Best of Iggy, which is the first book in a new series about--you guessed it!--a kid named Iggy, who does not play the cello, plant flowers by the side of the road, or learn his lesson and become a better person. Still, he's a pretty great kid.
Students in all grades may purchase personalized and signed copies Annie Barrows' books. Please submit form at the bottom of this newsletter with a check made out to Hicklebee’s and return to your child’s teacher or in the Author Visit Folder in the office by Tuesday, February 4th, 2:45pm.
