Representing NVUSD Teachers, Counselors, and Nurses

July 16, 2020 - Reopening 2020-2021

Hello All,

We hope that you have been able to disconnect and rest. It has definitely been an unusual summer. Many of you have been working with NVEA leadership and the district, to help solve the problem of how to safely deliver instruction and services to students during a pandemic. We appreciate your time away from your vacation and your dedication to your profession. Your participation is invaluable.

This morning Dr. Mucetti announced the plan for reopening school this year:

"Based on input, engagement, and thoughtful analysis with many stakeholder groups, NVUSD has decided to adopt a phased approach to reopening its campuses. We will begin the school year in a robust distance learning format in order to ensure the safety and health of our staff and students during these volatile times and concerning public health conditions. Our goal is to gradually return to in-person instruction as the public health conditions become more safe. As such, students will not start school in person on August 20th. We refer to this remote start as Phase One of our four phase plan. In addition, our plan also includes the development of a long term virtual learning academy that will be available for students who have no intention of returning to school in person during the pandemic conditions." (Please read the email on district address)

The email also gives links to Town Hall meetings for employees that are happening next Tuesday. If you are able, it is important that you attend.

There is a School Board meeting tonight at 7pm. We do not have the direct link to the meeting, but you can find it here. NVEA would like you to attend the board meeting. It is important that you hear and see how this plan was developed and what precautions are in place.

Discussions will continue next week as we work with the district on the details.

Thank you,

Gayle and NVEA Leadership
