Changes to School Volunteer Requirements
Large-Group Gatherings and Spectator Protocols
Large-group gatherings—extracurriculars, performances, examinations, assemblies, convocations, team activities, field trips, school-based meetings—are operational and most public-health restrictions are lifted.
When these gatherings occur, all EIPS schools follow public-health best practices, such as promoting hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and strategies to avoid crowding.

Sherwood Heights has officially opened the new Reset Room and it is off to a great start! It is a quiet, safe space in the school (supervised by a teacher and EA throughout the day) where students can get assistance working through periods of dysregulation, mental distress or mental health problems so they can return to class. The best part is: all students can use the room (if only for a short 10-minute break or for a full day, as needed)!
Our team has been working hard to create a warm and welcoming environment but this is where we need your help! Involving our parent community is an important part of creating sustainable, positive spaces in the school and we would love for our School Council and larger parent community to be included in this exciting pilot. We are in search of some important items for the room and through conversations at School Council, parents have asked for opportunities to engage with the school when there are opportunities to help or to donate to projects and initiatives.
We have created a sign -up sheet for parents who are interested in donating. The items on the sign-up sheet have the quantity indicated next to them in brackets (as well as an amazon link for some items to give a more specific idea of what we are looking for). If you would like to make a cash donation instead of donating items, please contact email@example.com in the office to arrange this. Please remember to complete this form verbally with your child every day. Doing so helps keep schools safer for everyone and, will hopefully, keep temporary online learning to a minimum.
2022 EIPS Parent Survey
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) wants to hear from you. Make sure to complete the 2022 EIPS Parent Survey—open from March 14-27.
Annually, EIPS conducts a parent survey to gauge its progress toward meeting the goals and priorities outlined in its Four-Year Education Plan. Families are asked a series of questions about their experiences with EIPS and the school their child attends, the overall performance of the Division, the quality of education being provided to students and areas for improvement. The survey feedback helps the Division develop new strategies to better serve students and the wider community.

NOTE: The survey is anonymous and only takes a few minutes to complete. If you want to share the experience of more than one child attending an EIPS school, simply complete the survey again.
Measuring Success: Complete this year’s Alberta Education Assurance Survey
Once again, Alberta Education is surveying teachers, students, and families through its annual Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) Survey. The survey acts as an annual check-up on the province’s education system. Every year, Alberta Education conducts the survey to gather information about the quality of education provided by Alberta schools and school authorities. The survey looks at various measures such as education quality, citizenship, family involvement, engagement levels, school climate and student wellness.
Throughout March, Grade 7 to 9 students and teachers at Sherwood Heights Junior High are completing the survey online at the school. Student participation is voluntary and completely anonymous. Students are assigned a random username and password to ensure survey responses aren’t linked to any individual student. The survey doesn’t take long to complete and is done within the school day during regular class time.
Additionally, parents and guardians of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 are also asked to take a survey, either online or by mail. Alberta Education will send families information about the survey directly. As with the student and teacher survey, it’s anonymous and asks questions about your school experiences. If you have a child in grades 4, 7 or 10, we encourage you to participate. The survey deadline is March 25, 2022.
Results from the AEA Survey are provided to Elk Island Public Schools each spring. The Division then uses the data to inform its four-year education plan, school education plans and strategies for continuous improvement. Each fall, the results are also shared with EIPS families and school communities in the Division’s Annual Education Results Report.

Each month, EIPS Career Pathways distributes relevant planning material, presentation sessions, occupational spotlights and other helpful information meant to support students and families. The hope: For junior high students to begin to understand opportunities available to them and explore and reflect on a variety of experiences to help them plan their next steps; and for senior high students to continue to set goals and further develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that increase their readiness to successfully transition beyond high school.

Parent to Parent: Foundations of Connection
Join us to learn about elements of healthy relationships including boundaries and consent. We will explore the language we can use and how to develop healthy habits with your children. We will also discuss how to teach children about consent, conflict, and how to recognize healthy or unhealthy behaviours in others.

First Nations, Métis and Inuit Update
EIPS First Nations, Métis, and Inuit team invite you to join their upcoming virtual gatherings. It is a great way to make connections, create a supportive environment for dialogue, share hopes and ideas, and learn what’s happening around the Division. We’re grateful to Elder Wilson Bearhead for attending the virtual gatherings last school year and agreeing to open each gathering again this year.

Young Women in Trades and Technologies - In Person Camp
Are you ready to discover your passion! A free in-person camp for female identifying youth in grades 9-12.
During the camp, students will have the opportunity to explore several careers in the skilled trades, gain hands-on experience, talk with female mentors who are working in the field, and connect with other young women with similar interests. This year we will be accepting 12 participants for our 4-day camp.
The full contest rules and judging rubric for grades 4-6 and grades 7-9 are available online, as well as the full list of prizes available to be won. With ties to English Language Arts and Social Studies—stories, histories, peoples of Alberta and citizenship—the contest is suitable for teachers to use as a whole-class activity or as enrichment for specific students. The entry deadline is April 11.
